Dd brought a tablet from argos under 1 year ago. It stopped working . She can't find her receipt but bought it with her bank card . She found it on her statement but argos are saying it's not proof of purchase.

Is there anything she can do ?

Did she order online? Check there for orders? Check her emails for virtual receipt?

swapcicles · 02/07/2024 09:58

If she ordered via the app then it'll be on there, I've returned stuff this way before.
Could try a bank statement but that only proves you bought something from Argos not what you bought, be nice and they might look on the system for you though ☺️

I found theses. There were others having similar issues.

I’ve had issues with Argos not sending me order confirmations/receipts etc. but the orders do show on my account. I phoned the Argos helpline and gave the order numbers, they then emailed me the order confirmation/receipt.

Dd can't find it in her past orders. So she must have done it in store

If she has the transaction on her bank statement, they can and should search the system to find it. Also, get her to check her old emails as they offer to email the receipt.

She never got any email receipt. She found it on her bank statement. Thru are saying it's not going enough. And not looking it up

I'd go into the store and ask to speak to the manager, then explain what you've been told and that a bank statement is proof of purchase, so they can search the system for the receipt, at the statement shows the date and time of the transaction. They absolutely can do this, I used to work there.

A bank statement is definitely not proof of purchase, it only proves that your purchased something from there not a particular item.
Also it could have been refunded later on, that may not show until the next bank statement.
Yes the store can look on the system but they are not obliged to as it takes time and usually not a quick process, that's why I suggested to ask politely and also go at a quieter time so they will be more willing.
Store all different slightly in their refund process but the principals the same.

That's from argos themselves.

I’ve always been under the impression that a bank statement is acceptable as proof of purchase. They should be able to search for the transaction for you.

That said, depending on exactly when it was purchased, over 6 months, and they could insist on you proving the product was inherently faulty before they offer a solution.

It might be worth finding the ceo email for Argos/Sainsbury’s and contacting them with the information. Most companies have an exec team to deal with these things. This seems to be the most recent CEO email.

In that case I'd take that screenshot into Argos and ask them to help.
I noticed they say "we can still help" so being a bit vague but that's normal I guess because each refund needs to be checked to see if it is valid to be processed ( way too many reasons to list but basically has to be genuinely faulty or resellable and purchased legitimately)

For future reference I work at Argos and we have the receipt portal that we can search. It's easier if you bought the item by card instead of cash, we can search using the last 4 digits of the card you paid with, the email receipt you used also drags up all your purchases but we can also do a date search altho that isn't very specific.
If that doesn't find you, you cant be found :)
All the stores should have access to this coz you can search each store data on there.
