Can someone please identify this animal poo in my garden?

Just stood in some revolting poo in the garden. Suddenly seem to have a lot out of the blue on our lawn (excuse the weeds it’s gone a bit mad) they all look different. I have also noticed we suddenly have loads of pigeons on our lawn in the daytime pecking away. Can anyone identify this animal(s) poo please?

Hedgehog poo? I'm not positive though.

Fifthtimelucky · 01/07/2024 21:57

I think hedgehog too.

deviantfeline · 01/07/2024 22:02

Some big bird I reckon. Duck or pheasant. Really horrid and very sticky

Aposterhasnoname · 01/07/2024 22:02

Hedgehog

Duck

LovelyDaaling · 01/07/2024 22:04

A bird. Their poo often has white in it,

Yes, it’s a bird. The droppings have a white cap of urates. Mammal droppings don’t have that.

Could you put a banana or something next to it to give an indication of scale?

RantyMcRanterton · 01/07/2024 22:19

Yeah something like pigeon or gull.

Hedgehog is more sparkly 😍 because of the beetle carapaces ingested.

Smidge001 · 01/07/2024 22:32

Looks like fox poo to me.

Char899 · 01/07/2024 22:34

Thanks everyone. I wondered whether it was just the pigeons but I also questioned hedgehog. The last photo the poo is more curled and has no white so I’m wondering if there’s two different types. I always thought bird poo was more of a splat or very thin. These are small but quite chunky. Will look again in daylight and put something down for scale. If I stand in it again I’m going to lose my s**t 🤣

Pigeon poo. They shit copiously wherever they gather, so if they’re hanging about having a social on your lawn they’re also crapping all over it. We have huge problems with them and honestly, the size, density and disgusting green-black stickiness of their shit is mind-boggling. It also acid burns everything like toxic waste, some kind of avian x-men schizzle. It’s horrible.

LawlorsNaa · 01/07/2024 22:44

Bird poo. Fox poo smells vile.

Beginningless · 01/07/2024 22:46

It’s definitely pigeon. I get it too. Not fox as my dog loves to roll in that and he leaves these alone.

Char899 · 01/07/2024 22:49

@EnjoythemoneyJane @Beginningless it’s utterly vile! My poor kids wanted to play outside this afternoon and I had to tell them they couldn’t. I’ll go and clear it all in the morning after the school run. Any tips on how to deter the pigeons? They’ve come out of nowhere just in the last few days. Never had an issue with them before!

Unfortunately not! They’re basically too stupid to be deterred by much, and even when they are they just come back the next day because they’ve forgotten. We have a dog, there are plenty of foxes about and buzzards and kites visit the garden daily, but the fat feckers are still everywhere - they just flap about in fright and then land about 20 feet away and poo there instead. The filthy stuff is the bane of my life - it’s either dried and welded to the ground like concrete, mushy and stinking, or has burnt or corroded whatever it’s on, including metal.

Mr Jane regularly threatens to buy an air rifle which I won’t allow, but god I’m sorely tempted sometimes!

If they’ve only arrived recently, try to identify if you have an attractant - maybe a type of small weed or something in your lawn - and get rid of that instead. Good luck though. Once they take a liking to a place they’re not easy to shift.
