Does anybody make coloured duvets?

Hi,

I just had an idea and I wondered if I could put it out for consideration?

I wash duvets in our house at least once a week, for various reasons. I have discovered that this is easy if I use summer ones which are quite thin and so fit easily in the washing machine. In winter we just put two on the beds for extra warmth.

However, the tricky part is that it's a major faff taking the duvet covers off and putting them back on again. It also seems a bit pointless when it's so easy to just wash the actual duvet.

It just occurred to me that it would be really great if somebody sold coloured duvets, perhaps in navy blue. Then I wouldn't need a duvet cover at all and could just use the duvet like a quilt.

I wondered if anybody had ever seen those sold, or if any company would like to start making them. I would be joining and orderly queue to buy some if they did.

Thanks!

Why don't you just use a quilt and flat sheets?

summeroccupation · 01/07/2024 20:16

Search "coverless duvets".

opalsandcoffee · 01/07/2024 20:16

or just buy a quilt? That is what you are talking about anyway

You can buy cover less duvets. I fact we have a navy blue one

BendingSpoons · 01/07/2024 20:19

Coverless duvets come in many patterns. I haven't used them myself as I wouldn't want to wash the duvet so frequently but they do save changing the covers.

BluPeony · 01/07/2024 20:21

Sigh. You've sent me down a rabbit hole on John Lewis and now I want an outrageously priced bedspread.

StarsBeneathMyFeet · 01/07/2024 20:27

Matalan do them. M&S did but last time I checked they were out of stock. Also John Lewis and I believe Dunelm (but online only). Coverless duvets is indeed the term as summeroccupation said.

WallaceinAnderland · 01/07/2024 20:35

I have a coverless duvet for the same reason. No more faffing with duvet covers.

YouAndMeAndThem · 01/07/2024 20:37

But why are you washing duvets once a week?!

Thanks so much for explaining about coverless duvets. This is great. I had no idea they existed.

It seems from the website that they are white duvets with the cover sewn on. Is that right?

Maybe I could just sew our duvet covers on too until it's time to replace them.

I don't know how to make dinky neat links apologies

I have a dc with sen who wets the bed several times a week (even with night nappies) and bought a couple of coverless duvets from the fine bedding company. They're brilliant. I shove one in the washing machine on a short wash then in the dryer or outside if sunny. No mucking about with duvet covers and they dry really fast.

No, they don't have a cover sewn on. They are made of a material that dries quickly. A normal duvet with a cover attached would take ages to dry in the colder months.

Check out The Fine Bedding Company. They do washable, cover less duvets. Lots of different colours, sizes and tog. They are amazing. The king size winter warmth duvet fits in an 8/9 kg washing machine and it dries really quickly in or out of the drier. I've replaced all mine with them.. and got spares..

Use a top sheet with your duvet. We do this and only wash the cover about 4 x a year

Evenstar · 01/07/2024 21:38

I have the Fine Bedding Company ones, they used to be called Night Owl and are now Night Lark. I got two of my three singles from Costco on special offer and the king size from Amazon a bit cheaper so it’s worth shopping around.

I have an M & S one that was a bit cheaper, but seems much the same,

I think that with wetting for children, or sweating-like-an-horse for adults, that might not be enough unfortunately. LOL!
