Does anybody make coloured duvets?

Hi,

I just had an idea and I wondered if I could put it out for consideration?

I wash duvets in our house at least once a week, for various reasons. I have discovered that this is easy if I use summer ones which are quite thin and so fit easily in the washing machine. In winter we just put two on the beds for extra warmth.

However, the tricky part is that it's a major faff taking the duvet covers off and putting them back on again. It also seems a bit pointless when it's so easy to just wash the actual duvet.

It just occurred to me that it would be really great if somebody sold coloured duvets, perhaps in navy blue. Then I wouldn't need a duvet cover at all and could just use the duvet like a quilt.

I wondered if anybody had ever seen those sold, or if any company would like to start making them. I would be joining and orderly queue to buy some if they did.

Thanks!

Have you heard of Kylie sheets? They are brilliant

That looks good too, thanks. :-)

I'm glad this thread has helped others. It's really helping me too.

I think those are actually duvet covers. We're chatting about duvets that don't need covers. Thanks though.

I have a dc with sen who wets the bed several times a week (even with night nappies) and bought a couple of coverless duvets from the fine bedding company. They're brilliant. I shove one in the washing machine on a short wash then in the dryer or outside if sunny. No mucking about with duvet covers and they dry really fast.

We got some waterproof duvets for a similar issue and they are great. I got sick of washing duvets!

S0livagant · 01/07/2024 22:09

Easy to wash? One 7.5 tog duvet fills my machine and would be a nightmare to dry in the winter.

I really like the sustainability element of this Nightlark firm:

'Best of all, this duvet is sewn in an award-winning zero waste European eco-factory in Estonia that runs entirely on 100% certified renewable energy, making it as kind to the environment as it is to you and your family. '

I don't use a duvet during the summer, just put a duvet cover on the bed.

Storynanny1 · 01/07/2024 22:13

we have a 4.5 tog coverless king size duvet in use from March to June and then September to November. It fits in the machine once a fortnight ( I change the pillowcases and bottom sheet weekly) and dries in an hour.
In the very warm months we have a one tog onto which I machined a duvet cover - again only an hour to dry
So only need to wrestle with duvet covers for a few winter months - didn’t get a 10 tog coverless as I don’t think it would fit in our machine.
Changing covers isn’t easy for everyone - we are both pushing 70 and both have arthritic hands or wrists so it works for us
More companies seem to be making them now - I got very reasonably priced ones from Amazon
Maybe you could dye your existing duvets ?

That's a good idea.

I've recently realised that the bed looks much the same if I just put the duvet cover on top of the duvet rather than trying to wrestle the duvet inside the cover.

Haaaaaaaang on a minute. These are cool. I want one. But what’s the benefit - are they far far far easier to wash than a duvet cover? I hate washing duvet covers as everything else gets stuck inside and it’s all tangly. I don’t think I’ve ever in my life washed an actual duvet, maybe I’m rank. But wondering if these cover less duvets are less annoying than washing a duvet cover??

Zoflorabore · 01/07/2024 22:19

We got ours from Very. I got a grey one for ds as he prefers the feeling of just having a duvet on but white is so impractical!

I got dd a Squishmallow one. They’re a game changer 😊

Shybutrude · 01/07/2024 22:21

Soooooo much easier I love mine washes fantastic dries in about an hour

TedWilson · 01/07/2024 22:23

Had one from Dunelm years ago and saw one online at Next last week:

On the line in the sun or inside when it's winter and the heating is only on for a few hours in the evening?

Are you talking about comforters OP?

It's just easier because you don't need to take the duvet cover off and put it on again.

You just shove the whole duvet in the washing machine and then dry it and stick it back on the bed.

Some of us have ASD people who like the weighted blanket thing of having three duvets, but then the duvets also require regular washing. Not having to take three duvet covers off and put them back on makes a big difference

Coverless duvets for the winter and bedspreads for the summer. Never change a duvet cover again!

That- quite unbelievable!

We just have weighted blankets that I wash at the start of May then put away until October.
