Presumably plenty do and then sweat whilst they are out for the day in a heatwave, so then travel home with BO.

They may well have done in the morning. Not everyone remains perfectly fragrant after a day at work.

I blame shirts/blouses and work uniforms made from polyester. Cotton’s much better.

It isn't always because someone hasn't washed themselves but that they haven't washed their clothes. A man used to get on the bus that I used regularly and he ponged but looked very clean and tidy. Eventually I worked out that it was his coat that smelt.
