Has anyone deferred their dates for jury duty?

I've had a letter re duty, however I am on holiday at the time. I'm not going abroad and nothing is 'booked' as I am staying in a friend's cottage. I have really struggled the last few months, with various things at work and I feel like I really need this holiday and time away. The letter gives options to give three alternative dates when you could do jury duty, I just don't know if I will be asked to provide evidence that I will be away, which I won't have for the reasons above. I have not problem actually doing the duty, just not at that time. I'm so exhausted and my mental health has taken a battering recently and I just feel I really need this break. If you deferred your dates, did you have to provide evidence? Were you called at a later date?

I did but for childcare reasons . I did it a few months later . I would just write the dates you can do , should be ok x

I asked to defer last year as the original proposed dates clashed with a planned holiday. I didn't have to prove the clash. I have since been summoned to attend for one of the three alternative fortnights that I proposed instead.

Thanks. It's not that I don't want to do it, I'm actually quite pleased if I do get to do it, I just so need this break so badly.

Oh that's useful, thank you.

Yeah I have and so has my sister (twice). Different reasons. The letter you get makes it sound really mandatory but it's not (at least in my experience)

A friend recently deferred for work reasons (nanny and the dates given were school holidays), she had no problem at all and was given one of her suggested dates instead. Wasn't asked to provide any evidence from her boss.

I assume the problems come to people who don't give any alternatives

I deferred as was due to give birth so gave alternates for once I was due back at work and had no problem getting it moved to the date I gave.

Yes, I received the letter last week but I’m on holiday on the date given.
just go to the web link given in the letter, it asks you why you want to defer, I said ‘I am on holiday from the 1st of month - 7th of month’
then it asked me to pick 3 dates in the future I could do (I think it was any time in the next year!)

I received a letter in the post a couple of days later saying deferral was successful and my new date is X. No evidence was asked for.

I managed to defer my call for jury service due to child care issues at the time. I never did get asked again.

Ok this is a long time ago (26 years).

i was called for jury service on my due date. I can’t remember if I had to give evidence but I think not. Was called again after the birth, but I said I am breast feeding and can’t have anyone else Looking after baby. The response was ok but next time no getting out of it.

to date I have never been asked again.

Yes, had a werk booked in August on the dates they called me up. I wasn't asked to provide any evidence jydt needed to give 3 slternative dates in the coming 12 months.

I deferred because I was at uni and had exams or something along those lines. No evidence required I just got a new date somehow and did it then.
