Why do I always catch DC sickness bug...?

So DC has come down with a sickness bug this week. I have now caught it over the weekend. This has happened every time sickness bugs have arrived since DC started nursery a few years ago...yet DH never catches them, ever.
I always clean everything with bleach, wash hands etc... but I can guarantee I will catch it a couple of days later.

Is there something to stop this? Or are some people just more susceptible to sickness bugs?! Drives me insane, I want to be able to look after DC when they are ill, not be preparing myself for the fact I will be in my sick bed two days later!! And why doesn't DH ever get them? He caught DC sick in his hands last week, so in very close contact!

Up your intake of probiotic and fermented products to help your gut biome. And try really hard not to touch your face.

@Lokshen great thank you I will take a look

When DS was small I used to buy Newgenn and spray everything!!!! If it moved I sprayed it.

Do you clean up rather than your DH? I tend to be the one that cleans up or is close to DS because he wants me when he's sick. Even with the bast hygiene in the world, I just get so much more exposure to it than DH.

Don't touch your face! It's amazing how often you do it without thinking. That and keep washing your hands.
When my kids had bugs us just keep them up - they always came in the bloody night- have a bowl and loads of towels. Put the telly on and ride it out. Once theyve stopped throwing up I'd put them back to bed.
Sorry it's grim.

mynameiscalypso · 30/06/2024 20:43

Duh, I didn't read your last line! I still think there's something about being in contact with it for longer

FuzzyStripes · 30/06/2024 20:46

I suspect your immune system is lower from being ill before and probably having less sleep/good quality sleep. Some people do have better immune systems but once you get ill and are run down, it is more likely you will catch something else. It’s a vicious circle reqllt.

gamerchick · 30/06/2024 20:49

Sick bugs are airborne for about 20 seconds after puking. Since we're usually the one's holding the bowl, it stands to reason, we'll probably pick it up.

Its not as if we can cover our heads, eyes and stop breathing while they're hurling

Yes I suppose I am in more contact , DC always want me when they are poorly.

There was one occasion a few years back when norovirus was doing the rounds at nursery. DC came home one day said they had tummy ache, but that was it , no sick/poo, nothing. Two days later I had full blown norovirus and couldn't even straighten my body for what seemed like forever I was in so much pain!

Maybe it is just me and gut health as the pp said, I will look into that.

Some people are immune to norovirus, so that may explain why. I think it’s to do with your blood group. I’ve never had a sickness bug in my life.

SnapdragonToadflax · 30/06/2024 20:52

I caught everything when my son was in nursery. Was ill every two weeks for a while, like him.

Now he's in Reception he's been ill twice this year, and I didn't catch either. I think it's because my immune system is better now - I sleep better, I'm not constantly stressed from having a tiny kamikaze child, life is just easier.

Also I'm more prone to bad colds/flu type things, my partner is more prone to stomach bugs.

ahwhattodo · 30/06/2024 21:01

@Mainoo72 tbh I hope dc is immune to norovirus I wouldn't wish that particular episode on anyone especially a child! It was horrendous
