Speed awareness course

deflatedbirthday · 30/06/2024 20:12

I have a speed awareness course tomorrow 11:30-14:15.

Is it likely the course will last the full duration?

I'm kicking myself. It's DSS sports day and I never twigged when I got the date. I've now missed the deadline to make a change for free. I'm gutted. I never miss sports day 😔

Yes it will.

PickledPurplePickle · 30/06/2024 20:14

Yes it will last the duration

Hatty65 · 30/06/2024 20:14

Yes, it will last the whole time. I found the one I went on really interesting actually.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 30/06/2024 20:15

Yes, the providers are being paid to deliver the course from X time to Y time, and to ensure the participants are present and engage with the material being taught.

RaininSummer · 30/06/2024 20:16

It will and whatever you do, don't ask to leave early.

I agree, I quite enjoyed mine, and I did learn some useful things.

LaMadameCholet · 30/06/2024 20:17

Yep. You can’t speed through a speed awareness course, not even to run in the Mum’s race.

AnnaMagnani · 30/06/2024 20:17

It might finish 15 minutes early but probably not. And if online you have to have your camera on the whole time, and they keep asking you questions so you can't zone out.

TwixOwl · 30/06/2024 20:18

Yes it's likely to last the full duration and just pray you don't get chatty participants or it'll go on longer. And if on zoom cross your legs as you can't leave for a wee until the break.

TwixOwl · 30/06/2024 20:19

Yes that's also true what someone else said above, camera on and looking all times. Someone almost got thrown off course as he kept looking over to the left.

mummyh2016 · 30/06/2024 20:23

Is it on zoom/teams or in person? I did one during Covid online and ours was done within a couple of hours, far quicker than the time that was indicated.

HappyAsASandboy · 30/06/2024 20:30

I did an online course. Lasted the full time, and she called it out if she thought anyone was doing something else while the course was running.

Expect to spend the time indicated attending the course. If you're thrown off it for being distracted or leaving early then you have no appeal - you have to take the points/fine in addition to the course fee you paid.

HelpMeGetThrough · 30/06/2024 20:37

Yep it will and if the instructor is doing their job, they will make sure you engage, or you are off and you'll get the fine and points.

I'm an advanced driver and ended up on one. I found it very good and all new drivers should do it, before being given their license.

Interesting fact our instructor told us if she was ever done for speeding, no matter how small, she'd immediately lose her job.

Miley1967 · 30/06/2024 20:39

Yes it will. I had one last year - seemed to go on forever.

Bluevelvetsofa · 30/06/2024 20:41

I think mine was about four hours with a couple of breaks.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 30/06/2024 20:45

You said you missed the deadline to make the change for free? So does that mean you can pay to change it?

summeroccupation · 30/06/2024 20:45

TwixOwl · 30/06/2024 20:19

Yes that's also true what someone else said above, camera on and looking all times. Someone almost got thrown off course as he kept looking over to the left.

I'd hate that - I'm ND and find looking at a screen constantly rally hard. I'll be listening but looking down to make notes or just to listen properly (hope that makes sense!)

deflatedbirthday · 30/06/2024 20:48

Thanks all. I'm wasn't intending on asking to leave early. It's face to face.

To the PP who asked. I can pay £39 to change the date. It was free until a certain point.

Nomorecoconutboosts · 30/06/2024 20:50

In your position if I could afford the £39 I’d change it. Otherwise I’d just accept I’d slipped ip
on dates - we’ve all done it 😊

kitsuneghost · 30/06/2024 20:55

You are caught speeding, get away with a 45min course and you still want an early dart.
Just wow.

mitogoshi · 30/06/2024 20:58

It will last the whole time

It's a tad more than 45 mins

Andtheworldwentwhite · 30/06/2024 21:12

God yes. And it was boring.

happypickle · 30/06/2024 21:15

Yeh they are so strict, you have to have your camera on the entire time and be engaged. Someone got thrown off my course as they were distracted by their TV.

You also can't have anyone else in the room with you or any distractions. Someone got told off for having someone in the room with them in the background. You will need a paper and pen as they ask you to write things and hold up on your screen.

I underestimated how much engagement would be required, it's very interactive. I thought I could just have it in the background , whilst cracking on with other things, alas, that was not the case!

mumofthree22 · 30/06/2024 21:19

I had to change my course the morning of the booking as my childs school bus didn't turn up so I had to drive them to school - the lady on the phone was kind and just moved me to the next day without charge. Best to ring tomorrow.
