A few times now I’ve seen my neighbours arrive home and get 4 kids out of their 5 seater car. Car is definitely 5 seats. Two under 3s and the other two kids are primary aged. They seem like lovely people but it is obviously horribly unsafe and I would hate for anything to happen to any of them. From what I can see it looks as though one of the older ones sits in the passenger footwell or on mum’s knee. Should I have a word with them or leave it? Also don’t want to bring about trouble but it just scares me!

Are you absolutely sure? Best to be certain before reporting!

DontBiteTheCat · 30/06/2024 19:48

If you are 100% certain you need to report it.

Yes. Car is 100% a 5 seater and just watched them all get out of it

Are you sure she doesn't have the biggest child in the front passenger seat, the next in the middle back seat and the two smallest in car seats by the back seat windows? 5 seater cars are designed to accommodate 5 people...

Her partner/husband is driving and she’s in the passenger seat.

Just watched them get out, the two older kids get out and then they get the youngest two out the car seats

What make/model is it

Some 'estate' cars & MPV's have three rows of seats with an extra two 'bucket' seats in the boot.

Eh Vauxhall Zafira and Kia Carens, also some Peugeot's

BumHeads · 30/06/2024 19:52

If you're going to report it would be police. That is illegal and unsafe. The unsecured child could die, and/or injure another one horribly just an accident. It's shit for them, but they really need to find another way to get around.

BumHeads · 30/06/2024 19:53

*in an accident

But do double check the vehicle model to be sure before doing anything

The police.

Tulipvase · 30/06/2024 19:56

You could report it to the school if this is a journey to/from school. I work in a school so I know that school are not responsible for everything a parent does but equally a quiet word might be all it needs.

PickleMelon · 30/06/2024 19:57

Could they have one of the seats that makes 3 into 4

Is it possible they have a Multimac?

One is a very small baby so I’m going to say no

Are you sure one of them isn’t climbing through from a seat in the boot? Do you see one of them come of the front passenger door?

They have an add-on to accommodate rear-facing and say it's suitable from birth - there's info and a customer picture on the page I linked.

LeopardPrintIsNeutral · 30/06/2024 20:02

My bets are on a multimac in honesty. No one is stupid enough to transport their kids this way surely

I’ve seen enough police type Tv to know this frequently happens.

wagasallday · 30/06/2024 20:07

Okay no multi mac. Had a Facebook stalk. The eldest child sits in the middle, without a booster. Two seats are either side. That means one is without a seat. Can’t see they climb through the boot as they also take a double pushchair out of that and it’s only a Focus

OP posts:
wagasallday · 30/06/2024 20:07

Older style focus

OP posts:
Strictlymad · 30/06/2024 20:09

Deffo double check make and model, but yes report to the police, the driver is responsible for anyone under 12 in the care to be properly belted- which they can’t be if there isn’t enough seats
