Working at polling station on SMP

I’ve been offered the place to work at polling station on Thursday. I am currently on SMP which ends on the Sunday 7th ? I’ve had to fill in an ad hoc tax form. Does anyone know if this will affect my maternity pay ? I can’t afford for it to be stopped just for working one day on a voluntary albeit paid basis. Any advice welcome ? I will call hmrc tomorrow when they open but just wondered if anyone has ever done this

If you do the job your SMP will be stopped. The only way you can do employed work whilst on maternity leave and keep your SMP is if this was a job you already had before you went on maternity leave.

Ah that’s rotten. Literally only have SMP for 3 days after it but if I lost the whole week I’d only make 40odd quid for 16 hrs work. Shame though I was quite looking forward to it x

Your SMP will stop if after the baby is born, but before the end of the Maternity Pay Period, you work for an employer who did not employ you in the qualifying week

You could do it if you were doing it as a self employed job.
