What clothes for a smart casual wedding?

Invite specifically says more relaxed and informal than a normal wedding. I have a summery dress but not sure what DH should wear. He was thinking of a shirt and jeans.

I would go for buttoned down shirt and chinos

I'd suggest chinos rather than jeans

It sounds very Australian. Dark trousers, a white shirt and a bright tie. Or a brighter shirt.

But definitely not jeans and definitely a collared shirt. It is still a wedding after all.
