Pip claim help

My adult son has just heard back to see if he will be awarded pip and they've awarded him 0 points for everything which seems crazy. I was there for the assessment on the phone and the report even says that he has difficulties with certain things.... No mention of him saying that I have to support him with lots of the criteria... Then still awards 0 anyway?! Is this common?

Totally agree with your second paragraph but have been shouted down on here for saying it. I see it every day. Need a change of job !

Oh wait, are doing this also?
Did you get to grips with it quickly? I did not.

Unless they use a sat nav which is an aid.

My dd couldn’t plan or go on a bus. But she could in a car. Motorbility confirmed this to us.

The pp who works as an assessor is absolutely correct, a sat nav is not an aid for pip purposes unless it’s been specifically adapted for use by someone with a disability.

Fair enough. It is definitely recommended for applicants submit supporting documentation from their doctors etc. it’s hard to argue against that, it’s hard to give points without evidence- the basic fact is, anyone could call up claiming a disability. If evidence support what they say, no problem IF it’s within the scope/seriousness that the DWP has set

Absolutely. The evidence needs to support the restrictions the applicant is claiming. It won’t be awarded without evidence.

No sorry I'm not in the same role as you.

In fairness, you seem to be more knowledgeable and doing a more thorough job than 90% of the assessors I come across. You’d be shocked at some of the PA4’s I’ve seen.

I don’t know how that happens tbh. Auditors are strict about quality of reports as are the DWP case managers. I’ve lost count in the past of how many of mine got sent back for not being thorough/ fully justified - and that was with me doing my absolute best. Independent audits are also done.

I’m as baffled as you are @PeaPalRIDriots but I promise I see many, many PA4’s where the assessor has written ‘not supported’ for A1 followed by ‘see A1’ for everything else.

Even more, I see copied and pasted statements that are unlawful and don’t relate to the eligibility criteria.

What is your role, if you’re comfortable sharing (sorry if I’ve forgotten).
Is this with a particular company and are they current? I’m so surprised the DWP would accept these. It does not happen in my world. I’m held to the highest standards (which I’d do anyway, but I’m pulled up on things despite best intentions). Training is rigorous and ongoing. We’ve even had training about not doing exactly what you describe. It could not be emphasised more. This is just unthinkable behaviour.

I had one of those on my last review. Copied and pasted 'Has no formal diagnosis. No specialist input" across therything.

It wasn't factually correct either. I did have formal diagnoses they just had obviously not read the paperwork.

Git it overturned before appeal, but an MR still upheld it. They did actually apologise (DWP) but it was very stressful.

@Whatnownownow are you his appointee?

No, he doesn't need that thankfully

I’m a lawyer dealing with MR and appeals.

All assessment providers Current claims. I’m really glad the training is hopefully addressing it but the majority of reports I see are terrible (admittedly I don’t see successful claims so I’m unlikely to come across the better ones, but I see a LOT).
