Where do you chase up a medical referral? With GP or hospital?

I'm waiting for an ultrasound appointment. I was told it wouldn't be a long wait and five weeks ago I was told I'd have received my appointment within the week but still not heard anything.
No idea whether it's worth phoning and where to phone?

If you think it hasn't been done ring the GP surgery to enquire the date it was sent then ring or email the hospital appointments office, information should be on their website which method of communication is available.

I would find out from the gp exactly where you were referred to, then call the hospital and check they’ve got the referral and ask how long. 💐

First check it's been sent by the GP and where to.

After that your GP honestly doesn't have much/any influence on how quick it is so check with the place doing the ultrasound.

I'm pretty sure it's been done as the nurse who did my blood test could see it on the computer and it was her who said I'd have heard before getting my blood results and that they maY phone if they had a cancellation to offer me.
I'll see if I can find an email for the hospital dept then.

At our hospital you'd need to contact the radiology dept to check they've got the referral and see how long the wait will be. If they haven't got the referral you'll need to contact whoever it was who referred you and chase them up / get them to send it again. It's rubbish I know.

Shame you don't get a confirmation that you have been referred. My sons referral was lost once and I just assumed it was taking a long time, eventually phoned and they had lost it so many months wasted.

I’ve never got a reply from emailing the hospital and some departments only accept emails from certain email addresses (nhs ones). Maybe try phoning.
