You may have heard or unfortunately seen the female prison officer having sex in a prison cell whilst been filmed . Her number visible on epaulette and her wedding ring clearly seen. On so many levels totally wrong.
I work in a male prison and have done for many years. I do a damn good job and am fair but firm and know I have the respect off the men. We do a challenging job in difficult situations but we are professional and caring.
Today Twitter is full of comments that women shouldn’t work in male jails or comments that make it seem all women are working there to be around men.
As well as the security aspect - she has made our job so much harder. I hope she sees prison from the other side of the bars.

What % of female prison guards have had sexual dalliances with male inmates, it seems to be a regular occurrence. Are we talking 40, 50, 60% ?!

Prisoners manipulate both male and female staff
I read of one being blackmailed into taking in phones etc and it all started with a packet of biscuits being brought from the out when none were available.prisoners had a receipt the guy had left in a carrier bag as proof and then pressured for other stuff to be brought in.

I've read quite a few books by prison staff and prisoners for balance.
I don't think the public as a whole appreciate the difficulties staff face from management and prisoners
The inexperienced are really in the wolves den IE the officer that took in biscuits from Tesco because he was being harangued because there were no biscuits..and ended up taking in phones etc

Hope you're OK op. I work alongside you in community. It devalues the uniform, it'll make it seem like all female staff are up for it. The focus of our job should be public protection not dealing with stupid comments.

Prisoners can be professional manipulators , against male or female staff. But there’s very clear guidelines on what to do if this happens.

This woman was 31 so wasn’t exactly a kid. Shes an adult and knew the rules.
She had sex with another prisoner filming then , she must’ve known it would have got leaked. It was inevitable.

Im ashamed that this happened but the vast majority of the staff I’ve worked with have been professional and do a good job in difficult circumstances.

Male and female staff in prisons is important, I certainly don’t believe in having male and female staff in male and female prisons. The rules changed in the late 80s and quite rightly so.

As for vetting, well they can only vet you on what you’ve done in the past . You’re just a name on a computer. They can’t know that someone is going to sleep with a prisoner in the future , how could they ? So I don’t see how this could have been foreseen.

And you don't think the fact she'd been on a swingers show on tv and had a onlyfans account was enough to be an unsuitable candidate for the role? I thought a google search was more or less commonplace these days? If not it should be.

It is a punishment albeit deserved in most cases . Imagine being locked away from society with limited choices, being told what to wear , eat , when to wash , eat etc . Freedom curtailed , can't go to the park and beach and swim in the sea on a beautiful day , can't celebrate Christmas , birthdays etc with loved ones . Can't really see kids , on edge all the time in case you get bullied or attacked , and much more . It must be awful if you're doing time for a crime that you didn't commit.

I heard of one where it started with a piece of paper given to an inmate because he had nothing to write on and it ended up with drugs bring smuggled and prison for the officer when eventually found out who felt sorry for the inmate originally. Keep a barrier up always.

You wouldn't think that something as innocuous as piece of paper could land you in a world of shit.

Sorry, but prison is a joke in this country. It needs to be made much, much more harsh.

As long as officers male or female are wearing their uniforms correctly, why shouldn't they be able to style their hair, wear make-up and nail varnish etc.?
They are dressing to feel confident and comfortable, just like in any job.

Prisons are horrible. I went in more than one as part of a former role, went on the wings etc, and I wouldn’t want to spend even one night there. Every time I left, I was so thankful for my freedom. They’re not “holiday camps”, nowhere near. If you’ve seen the video or pictures, then you’ve seen the tiny cell where 2 men slept in bunk beds and all the mess around them, hardly luxury!

The fact is when something like the prison service is chronically short staffed, they have to lower standards, there’s no choice. I don’t think they should be hiring OF women! But it looks like the account was in a different name. They wouldn’t have necessarily known to look for it. Likewise the documentary, unless they’d seen it, it’s hardly going to have been on her CV. It’s not routine to contact television companies and ask if a candidate has ever appeared in anything risqué! It’s not MI5 they’re recruiting for.

Yep . Some prisoners are devious and charming . Very good at sussing weak spots in people.

Why shouldn’t they? As long as it’s not viewed as contraband then they can do as they please. Female prisoners can’t wear make up or style their hair just because they broke the law? Even if the prison allows it? Strange take
