Angry at Wandsworth prison officer.

You may have heard or unfortunately seen the female prison officer having sex in a prison cell whilst been filmed . Her number visible on epaulette and her wedding ring clearly seen. On so many levels totally wrong.
I work in a male prison and have done for many years. I do a damn good job and am fair but firm and know I have the respect off the men. We do a challenging job in difficult situations but we are professional and caring.
Today Twitter is full of comments that women shouldn’t work in male jails or comments that make it seem all women are working there to be around men.
As well as the security aspect - she has made our job so much harder. I hope she sees prison from the other side of the bars.

Seen this happen many a time before and it'll happen again. When I worked in a male prison we had a nurse found doing the same 😬 just can't imagine ever thinking it would be a good idea

Yeah I get what you mean.

It's like when Zara Aleena's killer Jordan McSweeney was caught snogging a female prison worker at Belmarsh.

Totally sickening and only served to heap even more pain upon Zara's family.

Sickening.

That’s so shocking. I didn’t know that had happened so I just looked it up on the BBC. It wasn’t just snogging but a long term sexual relationship which started months after he was sent to prison. She wasn’t a prison officer either although they haven’t specified her status.

He had numerous convictions for misogynistic and sexual violence before the horrific murder of Zara so it’s incomprehensible that this could happen. I cannot imagine a woman who would want any proximity to him except one who is extremely vulnerable- but if she was how on earth was she in that environment? Gah!

It’s a disgrace and as you say I really feel for Zara’s poor family.

The cynical side of me thinks maybe she wasn't making much from her OF. Maybe realised she needed a "proper" job and so went with this. Then once she was in, saw a way to gain notoriety.

She knew she was being filmed. Surely she can't have been so stupid to think the video wouldn't be shared. This didn't look like a "love affair" which most of the others seemed to have been (from the females side at least).

Sad fact is, she'll probably get 12months max custody. Serve 6. Make way more money from her OF than she ever would have earned as a prison officer. It's a sad reflection on society as a whole really.

Yes and the Daily fail are sharing her OF nameessentially promoting it, she's clearly a narcissist and will be loving the attention

OonaStubbs · 29/06/2024 13:36

What will she be charged with? Surely she has committed a serious crime.

DancingLions · 29/06/2024 14:56

Most likely "misconduct in public office" that covers this type of thing.

The fact she knowingly allowed it to be filmed will (or should!) make it worse for her. We'll see anyway.

GachaBread · 29/06/2024 16:24

Jesus! Just seen the full uncensored video on Reddit, I have no words. Hope they throw the book at her for making a very blatant mockery of the system.

It's certainly not a loving encounter it is a porn type film.

Also that guy filming it is also smoking something. How wasn't that setting off a smoke alarm? Phones, smoking, sex. Wtf is going on in our prisons?!

OonaStubbs · 29/06/2024 16:38

When people say that prisons are like holiday camps, it's hard to argue with them when stories like this are in the news.

ItsTheGAGGGGGGGG · 29/06/2024 18:43

she has made our job so much harder.

In what way OP?

OonaStubbs · 29/06/2024 19:04

Do prisoners get referred to as "lags" within the prison system or anywhere other than tabloid newspapers?

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 29/06/2024 19:06

I'm just annoyed that prison is meant to be punishment, but here they are with drugs, phones and sex. Seems more like a holiday park than a prison..

OonaStubbs · 29/06/2024 19:20

Hopefully Labour will crack down on prisons and make them harsh again.

Because it's hard enough as it is to garner mutual respect between staff and prisoners, seeing something like this will make all female officers in male prisons look like fair game.

@Underlockandkey hope your shift is...well I won't say that word...my DH has me trained not to use it!

You’re having a laugh, right?

They’ve already said they would sentence fewer people. In effect this means decriminalisation of low level crime, rising levels of shoplifting and antisocial behaviour in the community rather than in prison. So prisons become easier to manage but the crime rises in the community. Like in the US.

OonaStubbs · 29/06/2024 20:02

we need more prison and they need to be harsher. Criminals need to be afraid of prison, not to look forward to it.

Anything they do will be better than the shit show and crime levels we have now.

OonaStubbs · 29/06/2024 20:12

The police need to become the Police FORCE again, not the wishy-washy police service. And prisons need to become proper prisons again. No more free playstation, free TV and (now) free sex with Onlyfans models.

Oblomov24 · 29/06/2024 20:17

What on earth was she thinking? Career suicide.

ShouldhavebeencalledAppollo · 29/06/2024 20:23

I believe she had already left the prison service. So not career endings.

I can’t believe she passed all the checks to be honest. I also suspect it was done on purpose. They filmed that, she quits, the video gets leaked and hopefully sends more people to her OF page.

I think she thought if she left it wouldn’t be an issue.

Her marriage is open with him doing OF with her.

I actually know someone who was a nurse in a prison. She got locked up for having sex with an inmate. No of us knew until her face appeared in the daily mail. To be honest it didn’t surprise me at all.

I’m no fan of the Tories but it can and will get worse under Labour.

It was Labour who started it by turning the police into thought crime units and making them prioritise thoughtcrime above real crime by introducing ever-increasing targets of thoughtcrimes to hit.

Tories continued down that path for which there’s no excuse.

It’s also liberal lefties that maintain that all lifestyles are valid and permissible and we aren’t allowed to say that things are immoral or unethical anymore.

So if people can’t be vetted and denied a job based on their previous conduct (clearly open and well documented on the internet and tv in this case), then these are the probation officers we get.

Oh no, sorry, people can and are denied jobs but only based on wrongthink (i.e. twitter posts). Not based on actual conduct.

The mess we are in is not of conservative doing (Tories aren’t conservative btw).

You want to try Scotland under the SNP for a truly fucked up scenario when it comes to crime and punishment.

DancingLions · 29/06/2024 21:21

The fact is, the support isn't there for pouring £££ into the CJS. Even if the money did exist. People have bigger priorities like the NHS and education.

If you work in the CJS, you know how bad it is. It's all broken.

All you can do is your utmost to try not to be a victim of crime! Because mostly, you're on your own quite honestly. And I say that as someone who has both worked in the field and been a victim of a serious offence.
