Hello. Are antidepressants very commonly used for teens? Do people here have much experience of their dc or themselves when they were dc taking them?

Was there an unpleasant sensation when they started or does it feel odd in any way?

I started on antidepressants at 16, first fluoxetine for about 2 months then Sertraline. Am still on Sertraline many years later.

I found fluoxetine made me very sick, couldn’t eat, no appetite, bad stomach.

Sertraline I had a few odd symptoms initially like a bit of nausea and just feeling a bit rundown but it stopped after a couple of weeks.

I know my parents were told to watch very carefully for any signs that I was becoming more depressed or more actively suicidal as this was a concern.

Thank you for replying.

Did you resist taking them or were you fully on board?

I was fully on board. I have other chronic health conditions though and was already used to having to take medication daily to feel well.

my parents were very supportive and I had a GP who was very engaged and still is (still have the same GP now). She also monitored me closely.
