Friend starting an office job - need ideas for a treat bag

QuestionableMouse · 27/06/2024 23:21

She's had a really rough few years and has finally found a good job but is really nervous about starting! Looking for ideas to put in a little gift bag to make her first week a bit nicer/easier.

Have so far:

Latte pouches
Squeezy Squash
Biscuit packs
Mints
Small notepad
Pens
Sticky pads

I have no idea on the office supplies or culture unfortunately!

Thank you!

She has a lovely metal travel mug she wants to use. 😊

A nice pen? 0ffice pens are rubbish. A cheap hand held fan given it's summer? Good for the commute if she's on a train and less than a fiver.

You are a lovely friend.

Thank you 🥰

She's going to be driving but a fan is a great idea! 😁

They are handy in the office too!

EasterlyDirection · 27/06/2024 23:34

Depends a bit whether she has her own desk or hot desking but maybe a pen pot as well as some nice pens. Handcream is a good call, the liquid handsoap in most offices and public toilets is very drying and I always have some on my desk, I buy the pump ones for work. I wouldn't use any of those edibles but if you know they are things she'd use then that's fine.

EasterlyDirection · 27/06/2024 23:35

I wouldn't use a fan either, I drive and we have aircon at work.

Ooh, I've just remembered my colleagues used to get graze boxes delivered. Now that's too much, but if you're putting a gift bag together for the first week, maybe a couple of boxes of raisins or nuts or something as snacks.

Im not sure if the office is nut free unfortunately so I'm not super comfortable including them.

I bloody love graze's lemon flapjack though! 😁

Added tea bags because she's fussy about which she drinks 😂

It's lovely idea - I think a couple of gel pens, an A5 notebook and some post-its is a lovely gift, gives a nice back to school feeling.

murasaki · 27/06/2024 23:43

Screen/keyboard wipes might come in handy. They're always gone in my place by the time I get there.

ScottBakula · 28/06/2024 00:19

Pens , all the pens !
Depending on her job a wallet to keep business cards to hand out or take off others .
Cheep spiral bound note pads but also a decent hard cover one , it looks more professional and is easier to write in if she's on the move . ( I had to take notes while walking round sites )

Single serve coffee , milk sugar and tea bags untill she can find out what the brewing up facilities are like.

Snacks that can be kept in her draw , mug shots , cereal bars , skittles, minstrels individually wrapped biscuits.

And if you know her well enough and live close or can get a delivery, a meal for her to come home to on the 1st night , she is likely to be mentally worn out and won't want to cook .

This is so weird. Does she actually want a load of tat to cart to the office? Stationery will be supplied. Honestly, if someone new turned up at my work with a goodie bag from their pal I would think it was very odd.

Office supplied stationery is crap. OP sounds lovely and I highly doubt they'd be doing this if their friend wouldn't appreciate it. I find it odd that anyone would think pens was odd tbh

darksigns · 28/06/2024 00:33

Headphones, preferably noise-cancelling if it’s a shared office…

squishee · 28/06/2024 00:49

The thought is lovely, you clearly care for your friend but... Is she a new first-time mum, or someone starting an unremarkable new job in an unremarkable office?

Cranacha · 28/06/2024 00:52

I think it’s a lovely idea irrespective of what type of job she’s starting. Some good ideas so far, I’d also add to that lip balm if anyone hasn’t said before. I find my lips get very dry in offices!

CHEESEY13 · 28/06/2024 00:56

A bottle of Malibu.😁

Why comment just to be negative?
