Would you have a big wedding with a white dress in your 40s?

I’m 44 in a few months, and sorta thinking maybe it’s silly. My Dad died recently and my Aunt is in a care home. My Dad actually bought a suit for the wedding that he didn’t get to wear. No wedding is booked he just bought the suit!

I know my Mum would want to be there and my brother, and would love to have a party so I’m conflicted about the whole thing.

I’d always fancied getting married abroad and having a party at home but Mum would be gutted if she wasn’t there and it’d be very difficult for her to go abroad as her mobility is so poor so feel like a wedding at home would most likely be a bigger wedding in that case.

What do you think?

Yes I'm in my 40s and absolutely would have a wedding with a ridiculous white dress. It's not silly at all. When else do you get a chance to do that? If wearing a fancy outfit is something you would enjoy, go for it. We're only on this earth for a short time, if we worry about being silly we'll miss out on a lot of joy.

The home or away thing is trickier. Weddings for me are about people being together, so I would want my nearest and dearest there so would choose the location accordingly. It still doesn't have to be big if you don't want it to be.

Yes you’re right it’s my choice in terms of the dress for sure. I suppose it’s not a wedding I would’ve imagined in anyway as I’m older and a lot of my family are too so feel like a bigger wedding wouldn’t be the same as it would’ve even 5 years ago but they would love to be there on the big day.

You’ve given me food for thought. Thank you.
