I stumbled carrying a heavy box and my big toe nail caught the doorstep… I fell on floor and nail still caught, so lifted up 3/4 of way but still attached to last 1/4. A lot of blood that’s now stopped but my god the pain!!

what can I do to help myself? (Other than gin)

Tape it with micropore tape and take painkillers.

(Actually dipping your toe in Gin mite not be a bad idea to disinfect it, although I'm assuming you where going to drinknit as that will really hurt )

Bathe it in cooled boiled water to clean it first mite also be a good idea. With a bit of salt, this will also sting like hell, what the heck drink the gin.

Ice, anti inflammatory painkillers, lots of rest, no fitted footwear! That is going to hurt like hell😩

You have my absolute sympathy💐

MigGirl · 27/06/2024 18:22

Basically you just need to clean it and wrap, it up so you don't knock it again. But pain killers and Gin (that is not medical advice and you really shouldn't take alcohol with drugs in case you didn't realise I was trying to m be light hearted) do sound like a good idea. 👍 hope it heals OK.

I really feel for you OP. When I was young and fit (many moons ago), I did a lot of running which caused my big toenail to lift. Same as you it bled , and eventually was hanging off 😬. Initially I just kept it clean/ covered but eventually had to get it cut off cos I was in bloody agony!!!

sammylady37 · 27/06/2024 19:10

Something similar happened me and I got it removed by GP as it was excruciatingly painful

AlwaysFreezing · 27/06/2024 19:13

Tonight clean if and cover it. Padding is your friend. Elevate it. And ice pack. And painkillers!

But you might want that removed. A podiatrist might be the best bet?

foodtoorder · 27/06/2024 19:17

Clean it, cover it and take some pain relief regularly until you can see a podiatrist.
I'm sure a local podiatrist would be willing to see you quickly for a small fee.

When this happened to me I went to the walk in clinic and they put it back in place as mine was from the side and lifted and wouldn't be put back by my shaking hands!
