Frizzy hair and expensive hair tools

Kat256M · 27/06/2024 14:23

I have long, dyed and sooo much thick hair. Frizz everywhere, especially around my scalp. I hate washing my hair because I look like a lion for a couple of days no matter what I use on them. And they take forever to dry.

I have a toddler, no time to spend on myself and a birthday coming up. Any recommendations on something that will make me feel put together again??

I looked at the shark flex tool thingy, the dyson dryer, dyson straightener, dyson airwrap...all look the same, are very expensive and I don't trust that they help. I just want long, shiny, sleek hair without putting any real effort😁

Try merwave op.
Stop straightening

I have the exact same hair and was looking into the L’Oréal Steampod and then found a dupe on Amazon for £50 - thought it was worth a shot! Now a year later and I’m obsessed with it. Gets it sleek but most importantly keeps it sleek! Even in humid weather. And even overnight! Madness.

The worst thing you can do for wavy/frizzy hair so to let it air dry. I use a microfibre towel wrap to dry it as much as possible, then use some smoothing products/mousse (helps with frizz)/heat protectant and then your tool. I found the Dyson made my frizz worse. I bought a pretty cheap and generic hot brush instead and found that better for me

Heat less curls are a game changer. Sleep in them and get a silk pillowcase. Find a hairdresser who can do thick hair, many can't.

Which product? Deep conditioning mask?

No, the pre shampoo treatment. Total game changer. But, if it's really bad, the conditioners too. But tbh, it's the pre shampoo treatment for me. My hair is amazing with it, and I have the most naturally frizzy and curly hair. Total game changer.

If you’re going to use straighteners, you need to blow dry your hair first. Letting it dry naturally won’t give you the same results.

i have similar hair. I usually get a second or third day by oiling and running straighteners through agains. I have a GHD glide brush which I prefer to regular straighteners.

Really? I didn't realise that! I thought I was making ny hair a favour, less heat. And it is too puffy if I blowdry straightaway-maybe not as frizzy but puffy for sure

use a good heat protector. I use colour wow dream coat, but will try others. I’ve been watching a few videos from blow out professor on YouTube and following tips on hair washing (though I haven’t used his recommended products yet) have helped my hair get thicker.

best tip was use a leave in conditioner after regular conditioner. But it needs to be a spray not a cream.

I use Philip Kingsley Swimcap, water resistant etc. It's around £20 for the smaller tube so expensive but it is good.

Thanks so much,I will have to get this.

Leaving it to dry naturally, especially over night is really bad for frizzy hair.

I have long thick frizzy hair. And the only way I can tame it is to dry and straighten it every time I wash it. It will last a few days once it's done.

I have a Dyson hair dryer and cloud 9 wide plate straighteners.

I use L'Oréal no cut cream when the hair is wet. I dry it with a vented paddle brush then straighten it.

CherryBombe · 01/07/2024 09:01

Oh and I always sleep on a silk pillowcase

@DailyCake is the CocoChoco keratin stuff honestly easy to use?
Their website put me off a bit !

I have the same hair straighteners, love them! Do you think the dyson hair dryer is worth it? I am tryng to justify the price to myself...

I got a couple of silk pillowcases but didn't notice a difference. Maybe I will try again

I genuinely found it easy to use. My hair is shoulder length and I don't tend to use straightening tools afterwards, only the hot brush.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 01/07/2024 11:01

I have curly hair and I've given up trying to work with it - I hate all the product I need to use to look halfway tidy and the fact I need to wash it at least every other day. I've started having keratin blow dries and it's made such a difference. It's not poker straight, it's just not frizzy any more!

Abigailandthefoxes · 01/07/2024 11:31

Another saying Keratin treatment turns my frizz to cute beach waves can straighten in minutes. Mine lasted almost five months so far.

CherryBombe · 01/07/2024 14:41

@Kat256M

I'm not sure if it is worth £300 or whatever it is but I do find it really suits my hair. I've had it ages so I've forgotten what a normal dryer is like haha.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 01/07/2024 21:16

I love my Dyson hairdryer! I used a different one on holiday and I really noticed the difference, my hair is so much smoother with the Dyson.
