How many fans have you had on in the House today? 🙂

OP posts:

I have one in the living room and one in the bedroom. My bedroom fan just lives in there as I use it more days in the year than I don't. I also have a cooling mat on my bed. Basically I like my bedroom more or less cold. The noise doesn't bother me - I like white noise for sleeping.

Don't have any. I work all day in a hot classroom and just got on with it. Temperature has dropped tonight here so there is no need for a fan. I never use one as I can't stand the noise.

Don't you have a fan in your classroom?

LaWench · 26/06/2024 23:48

One floor fan in each bedroom, a mini fan on my desk and a neck fan.

We've had the windows open all day, its been breezy even though it's warm.

Installed air conditioning earlier this year. Best money I've ever spent, annoyed with myself for not doing it years ago! Meaco fans are very good, lovely flow and really quiet considering. I'm a big fan of that brand (pun intended)

I'm in bed with one on me now. It's fantastic. Well worth investing in.

  1. One for DH in the lounge
  2. One for me in the lounge
  3. One in the kitchen when I am cooking
  4. One for the cat
  5. One in the bedroom

Although I do switch my fan off in the lounge - when I'm in the kitchen, and have the kitchen one on. (Both are off when I am outside!) And the cat's one is off if she comes outside. And DH's is off if he is at work or asleep in bed or outside. The bedroom one is only on if someone is asleep in there. So the 5 fans are never all on at the same time.

tillyandmilly · 26/06/2024 23:53

Had desk fan on my face today - I WFH - and get a migraine in hot temperatures! Sorry global warming!

Clafoutie · 27/06/2024 00:00

Can anyone tell me about Meaco fans? It seems there are lots of different models and prices. Are they all generally good?

XenoBitch · 27/06/2024 00:02

A big fan, a USB desk fan, and a neck fan for when I go out.

KreedKafer · 27/06/2024 00:04

i don’t even own a fan!

I have this one which is one off the more expensive ones.

I never thought I'd spend that much on a fan but it was brought a few years back in desperation when had heatwave. But I love it

it's so quiet, currently got it on its lowest setting and can't hear a thing and am noise sensitive. It comes with remote, timer.

I can't say what the cheaper ones are like.

BashfulClam · 27/06/2024 00:53

I live in Scotland, behave!

CalicoPusscat · 27/06/2024 01:00

I had the heater on for half an hour earlier.

Now it's warm but not hot.

GrumpyPanda · 27/06/2024 01:02

One. A 120 W high velocity fan that sits in the open window every morning and evening for a couple of hours to expel the used hit air and suck in the nice cool night air. Works really well because the room has opposing windows. Downstairs stays cool anyway.

Saltnvinegarnsauce · 27/06/2024 01:06

All this air conditioning must be great for meeting our climate change targets

I think I’ve only seen two posts on this thread mentioning having air con in domestic homes. Everyone else just has electric fans. What are people supposed to do - go without fans and get ill in the heat? I’d like to see us generating 100% renewable energy, please, rather than berating individuals for using a fan in temperatures and humidity way above levels that typical British homes are designed for.

If we want to improve things then we need to endure a little discomfort otherwise it will get a lot worse

Lemontreeinthecity · 27/06/2024 01:51

Fix it chicks on Insta. Lots of great advice on how to cool and heat your house.
They are Australian so know what they are talking about!!
It helped me!

Oops it's @ jenandlishfixitchicks

Feministwoman · 26/06/2024 21:58

You do all realise all your electric powered cooling mechanisms are making global warming, and hence the current climate heating, worse.

Yes?

Okay I'll bite. I’m a lone parent with an autistic child. I have always run hot but my antidepressants make me run even hotter. I have Raynauds which make me lobster red and veiny in the heat. I take propranolol which makes me pour with sweat on a normal day. I am in debt with electric due to the price hikes but fuck anyone who thinks I’m out of order using an electric fan the past couple of days. The heat is due to drop in the next couple of days. I will no longer require the fan.
Aim your bullshit towards real offenders. Poor form to pick on people on this kind of thread. Silly person.

OperationGoldDawn · 27/06/2024 02:19

just these Buy Challenge Chrome Desk & Floor Fan - 18 Inch | Fans | Argos

Pleiades2020 · 27/06/2024 02:42

None. No need for fans or aircon the warmth is quite manageable.

DonaldJohnTrump · 27/06/2024 04:37

None in the house, but outside there's a bigly lot of fans. I have to push thru 'em to get to my motorcade. But I sign a few autographs (well it's more of a cross really) and give outa couple of hats and they seem kinda happy with that.

DanceAtNight · 27/06/2024 04:43

We bought 5 air con units a couple of years ago so have them in a couple of downstairs rooms and in ours and kids bedrooms. So much better than fans.

Kinsters · 27/06/2024 05:04

I live in the tropics so right now there's a ceiling fan and a stand fan on in the room I'm in plus the ceiling fans in the living room and dining room are on to keep air circulating.

We have solar panels so my concession to the climate is to try and keep consumption under generation so we're fully using solar energy. It's not hard to do as long as I don't use aircon during the day which I'm used to now.

Until the government bans private jets then I'm not going to worry myself about making changes that have a huge impact on me and very little impact on the climate (eg not using a fan).

EyeOop · 26/06/2024 22:39

I’ve never seen a fan in someone else’s house and I don’t have any in mine, I’ve only ever heard about people having fans on MN, I mean I’m sure they do exist. But where do they all live on the other 360 days of the year they aren’t needed?

We have a Dyson hot and cool fan. It lives in the kitchen year round and is used in the winter to warm the area and in the summer to cool if, as and when required.

I don't have one in the bedroom though dd sometimes takes the fan upstairs to hers when it's too warm.
