Fans in the hot weather

How many fans have you had on in the House today? 🙂

We installed a ceiling fan in the living room last year. It's amazing. Before we got it I was considering air conditioning but we no longer need it as the fan takes the edge of the heat just enough.

Bedrooms are still a nightmare in the heat though.

One in each bedroom and one in office, so three in total, not all at once.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 27/06/2024 07:26

We have ceiling fans, three tall upright fans that live in the garage when not in use, my daughter has one for her room, my son has two, but he runs them all year round.
I love nothing more than the fan sitting on the windowsill with wide open windows at 4am. Cools the room right down for the day, then I shut the curtains so it doesn’t warm back up as quickly.

You do all realise all your electric powered cooling mechanisms are making global warming, and hence the current climate heating, worse.

Yes?

Somebody's channelling their inner Hermione Granger, or was her name Greta Thunberg, I forget?
"You do realise that your sheets are changed, your fires lit, your classrooms cleaned and your food cooked by a group of magical creatures who are unpaid and enslaved?"

We've waited about nine months for needing-a-fan weather. It's very cold, this "global warming" that we keep being told about. That's why they decided we needed a new scary buzzword, and they changed it to "climate change". I remember when the peur du jour was "the greenhouse effect" and "the hole in the ozone layer", accompanied by "you do realise that your spray cans of deodorant are making the hole in the ozone layer even bigger, with their evil CFCs?"

Can anyone tell me about Meaco fans? It seems there are lots of different models and prices. Are they all generally good?

Two of our three fans are Meaco fans (around a hundred pounds each). They circulate the air well and are not too noisy. The air seems ‘fresher’ than standard fans.

Yes?

you're welcome to martyr yourself and be hot @Feministwoman
it's for the power suppliers to provide "green" energy not for us not to use energy 🤦🏽‍♀️

I have a tower fan in every room now aprt from teh bathrooms, they work pretty well.

Installed air conditioning earlier this year. Best money I've ever spent, annoyed with myself for not doing it years ago! Meaco fans are very good, lovely flow and really quiet considering. I'm a big fan of that brand (pun intended)

I wish I could, but I'm renting. I have two potable aircons and a large stand fan.

I don't do hot well, I do cold well. Over the winter I think I had the heating on 4 times.

DancingLions · 27/06/2024 10:26

I loathe fans. To me they just seem to circulate round the hot air and leave you feeling hotter than you started. I'm in London though where there often is no cooler air outside to draw in.

I have portable AC in my bedroom and I feel not one iota of guilt about it. Planning to get proper AC downstairs over the next year or two. I'm menopausal and get so hot at night. All winter my bedroom window was wide open all night.

If it's acceptable to use heating to warm yourself, then it's acceptable to use power to cool yourself.

Don't you have a fan in your classroom?

😂😂😂

Can't even afford glue sticks or pencils to last the year! Whose buying the fans?

I've only ever once had a fan in a classroom, because the previous (retired) teacher left it there.

Same. I do cold very well. It is easy to get warm by putting on more layers and moving about.
When it is too hot, I want to take my skin off. But that is impossible, so a fan it is.
