Saving family members in event of tragedy

If you could only save 3 family members in a serious scenario, who should you select out of the following: dh, dd, ds, and ddog?

Are you for real?

The 3 humans, obviously

FuzzyStripes · 26/06/2024 21:11

I would hope that DH and/or Ddog would be able to help themselves but ultimately, Ddog would be the last one (and probably the one I’d end up dying to save - and this dog is just hypothetical as I don’t even have one).

GameOfJones · 26/06/2024 21:11

Well, obviously I would save my husband and my children. Because I'm not a psychopath.

ExhaustedCoffeedrinker · 26/06/2024 21:12

I love my dog but I would choose my husband son and daughter. Luckily I don't have a son so I would keep my dog too.

BirthdayRainbow · 26/06/2024 21:12

DD
DS
Ddog

Mum2jenny · 26/06/2024 21:13

I’m thinking the ddog and dc as dh is an adult and should be able to save himself.

Obviously this post is very much tongue in cheek….

Kids and the dogs. I haven't got a DH, just a boyfriend. And I'd pick the dogs.

Cattery · 26/06/2024 21:16

Son. Husband. Cat. In that order. Or maybe the cat second…🤔

Yup.

PeonySeasons · 26/06/2024 21:19

Only DH and the dog to worry about here, but he's a trained fire fighter so he better be getting me out!

Assuming all things were normal though, I'd expect the DH to be getting a child as well as me, and general yelling at the dog to get out!

thecatsthecats · 26/06/2024 21:22

I only have one baby and one cat, so I guess cut my limit to two. I could carry both the baby and cat out, but doubt I could rescue my husband.

So it depends if I COULD rescue my husband without jeopardising the baby. If I couldn't, might as well rescue the cat (who comes running to get us whenever there's the slightest disturbance, so it's only fair he gets saved).

Cattery · 26/06/2024 21:24

@thecatsthecats 🤣🤣🤣

BlowDryRat · 26/06/2024 21:44

Husband and kids, obviously. I'd leave the doors open so the hypothetical dog could get itself out.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 26/06/2024 21:55

Kids
dog
husband
annoying cat

Magpie50 · 26/06/2024 22:02

Dog
Dog
And Dog

Because I cannot imagine any world where I'd actually have a partner and kids....but I do have 3 dogs!
Also as a deep sleeper I am more likely to need rescuing myself!

Well yes but presumably in a hypothetical where you have to save people, you surely have to assume that they all actually require saving.

GaraMedouar · 26/06/2024 22:06

When my kids were younger I would have saved youngest first , then next oldest then next oldest - as the older children more capable - Dp would have to save himself.

XenoBitch · 26/06/2024 22:06

I only have a dog, so my dog several times over.

These types of threads always end up with arm chair shrinks diagnosing anyone who would even look at their dog during an awful event, as a psychopath.

YeahWhateverGoAway · 26/06/2024 22:09

DD (single so only her to consider) but she'd need rescuing instead d
of doing as she's told and getting out as she'd been scooping up out two cats.

Honestly I think this is very much in bad taste It's really not a funny or lighthearted subject

BestZebbie · 26/06/2024 22:11

I'd save the people if only I could save them, clearly. Children first, as the youngest would be the most helpless (and also easiest to carry).

But in the real world I'd hope that DH would also be interested in saving the children, so we could take one each and then someone could go back for the dog as well......

Agreed.
@XenoBitch not sure about psychopathy. But would you marry someone who would let you die to save their pet?

Post 'my DH said he'd choose the dog over me' and there's be an uproar calling him LTB etc etc.

Icanwalkintheroom · 26/06/2024 22:14

DC first. Then DH. I don’t even like dogs. I’d do what I could to go back for the cat though.

When the dc were little, dh and I allocated ourselves 1 each to be responsible for saving in the event of a disaster or emergency. I had the younger one (ds)…Though nowadays he’d have to carry me to safety rather than the other way round!

Edited

I would be saving myself.
