How much do you pay your cleaners?

From September I am going to be studying full time as well as working part time. I am thinking of getting a cleaner in to help ease the burden a bit.

I know each area is different but what is the going rate for a domestic cleaner? How long/how often does yours come in and what do they do in those sessions?

We are moving into a 2 bedroom bungalow with 2 children. I have been debating between agency or independent, which would be the better option?

Ours charge £20 per hour.
They come once a fortnight for 3 hours and in that time they do all the dusting, hoovering, mop floors, clean kitchen and bathrooms and generally neaten as they go.
My house is always very tidy so they don't need to faff about with moving things about so they have more time for other things.

I pay £15 an hour for 2 hours a week (North of England). She does the stairs, cleans bathrooms and mops hard floors in the kitchen and hallway every week and alternates upstairs and down for more general cleaning. There is usually time to run a hoover round the sitting room even with it's an 'upstairs' week. If I want something in particular doing (eg clean the fridge or windows) she prioritises that and then does the rest.
