How do I get this smell out of my bag?!

I didn't really think this one through. I was going out for the day today with DP and the ham in the fridge for sandwiches had gone off. We were running late so I just grabbed another pack of ham from the freezer, shoved it in my bag and put the bread in a bag with the idea that we could put the ham in the bread once it had defrosted. Lunchtime arrives - I unpack my bag and the lining is soaked from the defrosted ham. It now stinks. I washed the lining with washing up liquid when I got home and left it to dry but it still smells... meaty 😫It's a PVC bag so I don't want to put it through the washing machine, and anyway we're going away tomorrow and I need it. Any ideas anyone??

Sprinkle a load of bicarb in there?

I sympathize, I once forgot about a bottle of apple juice in my nice leather handbag. Didn't use the bag for a few days, and when i opened it, discovered the bottle had leaked. It had been sitting by a radiator too. Took ages for the smell of cider to go.

edited to add some much needed punctuation

I’d hang it out of a high window overnight with the lining sticking out, turn it inside out maybe?

give it a good airing overnight and see how it is in the morning.

High window so a fox or cat doesn’t drag it off 🐱 🦊

I forgot Febreeze, I do actually have some. So I will spray it with Febreeze AND hang it out of the window. Thanks 😀

If I really had to use the bag tomorrow I'd cut the lining out; wash the whole bag with washing up liquid and use towel and hairdryer to dry. You may be able to sew the lining back in if you're careful about how you cut it out.

You freeze ham?! Yuck.
