King or super king bed?

Moving home very soon and would rather not go to the hassle of taking apart and putting back together our double bed frame… plus it will look tiny in our new bedroom!

A double was all we could fit in our new build room and tbh we have managed mostly fine with it but more space would definitely be ideal. We do like to sleep quite close to each other most nights. DH works shifts so for a good 30% of the time it is just one of us in bed.

We have lots of space in our new home and the current owners have had a super king comfortably in the room.

I am in the second trimester expecting our first baby and know we will probably end up with our toddler climbing into our bed in a couple of years time, but still not sure if we’d manage just fine in a king. I imagine bedding for a king size mattress is easier and cheaper to find, for starters!

What would you go for? Need to choose soon so I can order it :-) thank you

Super King with a single duvet each 👌

Totally agree. I hate the huge kingsize duvets and we sleep so much better. And it's a lot easier to change bedding than wrestling the enormous beast of king size duvet.

We had a double bed for 13 years. Have a super king now and I don't know how we did it.

Super king sleeping on an Emma mattress has changed our lives. My bed is my favourite place in the world!

Absolutely super king. I tend to get nice cotton sets at JL when in the sale so have a few at home. Bought a nice one only yesterday for £45!

Also (I haven't gotten to the bottom of the thread yet so someone may have beaten me to it), look at this visual with mattresses. The jump from single to double to king is small, but from king to super king is much bigger.

Another vote for super king! We went from a double to a super king and it was life changing. Now we have a toddler it is even more useful as she can fit in the middle with her pillow if she comes through early morning. I now struggle to sleep in a king. The jump from a double to king isn't that much, it's the jump from a king to super king that is the game changer. I think it's like 15cm from a double to king and then 30cm from king to super king. So it's a choice of an extra 15cm or 45cm!

I'd definitely go for the Super. We just got ours this year! Previously had a King. Our son was born whilst we had the King and co-sleeping still felt like a bit of a squeeze (during hot nights like right now, you all need to stretch out!). We haven't actually tried cosleeping in the Super yet as I cosleep on a double in his room now rather than our bed (find it better as I can escape his room when he's asleep and then DH and I have our bed to ourselves). We also thought a Super would be safest as we'll eventually have 2 children, and they both may end up in our bed at some point!

We've gone one step further and have a super king with a double duvet each. Would never go back to a smaller bed or sharing a duvet again

magicstar1 · 26/06/2024 09:37

Superking. We've just gone from a double to a superking and it's amazing.
For the bedding, we buy the deep sheets in Ikea and they're perfect. We use a double duvet each, as DH likes to cocoon himself, and I llike to kick off the covers during the night. We have two of each cover so it always matches.

Superking with two single duvets. Amazing.

But (tight diamond shoes alert!), be aware that this will severely impact your choice for trips away/holidays in the future. I now won't consider anything less than a king size if we stay anywhere (or there has to be at least one alternative sleeping option).

We can just about suck it up for one night if we are staying with friends, but I have to accept that neither of us will get much sleep.

Is bedding any more expensive does anyone know?

Saw some in Primark a few days ago. Cotton fitted sheet. It was about £15

pizzaHeart · 26/06/2024 10:12

We have super king bed and each our own duvet. We both like it.

DoNotScrapeMyDataBishes · 26/06/2024 10:15

Oh god I was you a couple of months ago - I do not regret the Super King choice one bit (well apart from when I have to get up and out of it on a morning).

Venturini · 26/06/2024 10:47

Super King. Best money we ever spent.

MadKittenWoman · 26/06/2024 11:13

Superking definitely.

pambeesleyhalpert · 27/06/2024 17:51

We went from a double to a king and i wish we got a super king, esp when I was pregnant and i kicked him into the spare room. Getting a super king when we renovate next year!

Oldandcobwebby · 27/06/2024 17:53

Super king every time. Your sleep will improve massively.

Super. It's game changing.

What game are you playing in bed? Golf? ⛳️
