King or super king bed?

Moving home very soon and would rather not go to the hassle of taking apart and putting back together our double bed frame… plus it will look tiny in our new bedroom!

A double was all we could fit in our new build room and tbh we have managed mostly fine with it but more space would definitely be ideal. We do like to sleep quite close to each other most nights. DH works shifts so for a good 30% of the time it is just one of us in bed.

We have lots of space in our new home and the current owners have had a super king comfortably in the room.

I am in the second trimester expecting our first baby and know we will probably end up with our toddler climbing into our bed in a couple of years time, but still not sure if we’d manage just fine in a king. I imagine bedding for a king size mattress is easier and cheaper to find, for starters!

What would you go for? Need to choose soon so I can order it :-) thank you

The only thing is, if you wind up in a double when you go away it feels tiny! (DH is 6'4 which will also impact this)

With a baby on the way, the bigger the better. I'd have loved a super king when my children were at an age where they liked to co-sleep.

We stupidly downgraded to a King-size when we bought our new house - worst decision ever 😱

We have a super king with king size bedding, seems to work fine!

We have a double bed which fits into our built in units. It's pants and I feel even worse now reading about your lovely super kings.😞

Super king! I have a king duvet as it was cheaper and easier to get bedding for! Also easier to wash and dry, and put back on the bed! It fits just fine, and there has been no fighting over the duvet either!

Superking. But don't make one by putting two singles together, because you get the Crack of Utter Doom, which may drive you insane. Get an actual superking mattress.

I have duvet from Homesense and bedding from Dunelm

We've recently moved and have upgraded from a double to a super king. It's the best decision ever. As mentioned upthread we've also gone with 2 single duvets. Been married over 30 years and we're both sleeping better than ever before. Easy enough to get together for a cuddle but we both get our own space and no one hogs the covers.

Super King. Game changer with young children.

Super king, we’ve had ours probably 20 years and I wouldn’t go back. Bedding is easy to find these days.

I adore our super king bed and would never go back. The only downside is that doubles feels tiny when you're away. Buy super king bedding and the super king size pillows. Even better, get linen bedding for the perfect bedtime.

Superking . DS co-slept with us until he was 3. At which point he was too tall. He could sleep any which way and not bother us up until then, he’s always been tall for his age so at 3 he was starting to wedge himself horizontally between us and push us out of bed. So that was time to turf him out.
I think he was around 13 when he stopped jumping in between us. It wasn’t to sleep but to have breakfast in bed at the weekend or to watch a film with us. He will occasionally join me to watch an interesting TV program even though he has his own TV. He’s past the awkward teen years so doesn’t feel uncomfortable.
We had a new Tempur mattress recently which is the biggest draw. It is probably the most comfortable mattress I’ve ever slept on, we are on our second one after the first one started to loose its memory.

Super king! And when you’re putting the duvet cover on, lay the duvet so any lines on it go horizontal, not vertical like the smaller sizes. It’ll fit better that way.

Two single duvets here too. We have a bedspread to make it look neater.

Fussy about bed linen though. Do Dunelm have 100% good quality cotton? I bought a bottom sheet from Sainsbury a couple of years ago and despite being 100% cotton, it was like sleeping on a brillo pad.

Super king, but get one with 2 separate mattresses. So much easier to turn and move etc etc. They zip together (or not) and can be of different firmness.

PS Your king size duvet will fit a super king size bed. I have a down ks duvet, so too expensive not to use.

When I got mine in 2021 covid delays on deliveries meant I could only get a King.
had previously had Suerkings and bedding was never a problem.

And highly recommend bamboo sheets.

I'd get a super king. I have a king size just for myself.

I have a toddler who takes up an outrageous amount of space. Our super king bed finally arrived last month. Sleeping so much better than before!
