Help! potential new neighbour

What on earth do I do?
The house next door has been empty for 6 months which is great because it's dead quiet.
They are pretty soundproof but not smell proof, if someone smokes in the house its the same as letting them sit on your lap blowing smoke in your face. The last people there smoked a bit and it made my house stink!
New potential buyers came over to ask me about the area and the man stank to high heaven, he must smoke 50 a day sitting in a small cupboard to smell that bad.
I'm terrified they will move in and stink my house out.I'd rather have drum and bass all day than cigarette smoke.
Short of blowing the house up or getting in a voodoo practitioner what can I do?

Buy the house next door? Smell-proof your house? Improve ventilation?

Pay a hit man to hunt down and assassinate the smoker?

Sleep with the estate agent then threaten to tell his wife if he doesn't put a nice client in there?

I don't think there's anything you can do, and I'd feel the same way as you do. He's allowed to smoke in his own home. Move?

Gettingbysomehow · 25/06/2024 12:55

I can't afford to move, I'm retiring in a couple of years and all my cats are buried in my garden I'm not leaving them.
I think I'll go for the first reply and get a builder round to look at smell proofing/ventilation. I hadn't thought of that thanks.
Mind you looking at the state of this guy I would not be surprised if he lived for much longer.
