So it turns out there is a summertime version of the Dressing Gown of Doom

I was busy finishing up work and cooking dinner and clearly DH needed to let me know he was desperately ill but he couldn't throw on his dressing gown that he saves for these occasions, so I found him dramatically leaning in the kitchen in just his pants and socks with a thermometer hanging out or his mouth Grin

I love him and he's great and usually looks after me mainly (I have a condition that means I feel dreadful a lot of the time) but I still can't get over the dramatic posturing!

I don't know if it's just because i have got used to feeling ill, or because he feels guilty leaning on me when he knows I am not well, but I still can't quite comprehend being so theatrical about it!

Mine prefers to burn it out in the dressing gown of doom for added effect and gets me to feel his forehead and ask if he feels cold etc.

I always find these threads a bit strange because of all the many threads where a female OP is feeling ill and needing a lie down and her husband/partner is the biggest dick in the world for not rushing to comfort her.

WindsurfingDreams · 24/06/2024 19:42

Oh I have properly looked after him. And I am doing anything. My point is I would have done so even if he wasn't being really dramatic about it

Thank you OP for making me laugh.

"Pants of pestilence" has cracked me up 😆

It's only a joke 🤷🏻‍♀️surely you know at least one man who has a dressing gown of doom??
I don't know a single woman with this affliction 🥴

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 24/06/2024 19:46

At least he had the decency to put the thermometer in his mouth.

This time.

I do hope he washed it.

This time. 🤢

I think that it is the level of drama involved. It is similar to me aged 9 when I really really wanted my mum to think that I was ill so I didn’t have to do the spelling test.

If he just said “Liz - I’m feeling a bit shot so I’m going to go and lie down for a while” then it wouldn’t be so silly.

Mumofteenandtween · 24/06/2024 19:48

Shit! Not shot! Shit! It seems my phone does not approve of my language!

MoonWoman69 · 24/06/2024 19:51

Mine said earlier "Oh, aye up, I'm going to sneeze again"! All very lovely, except he'd been in my vicinity for a good hour and I never heard the first one?! Could it be possible he was referring to a sneeze he did back in 1994?! Who knows with men and their lethal illnesses! 🤷🏼‍♀️

GingerPirate · 24/06/2024 19:53

A Summer one?
That's interesting 😁
My husband has been working on the roof (74yo!)
and it was roasting here, so since then he's just resting in his briefs.
Well deserved rest.
(Was adamant he must do that job today).

GinTonic123 · 24/06/2024 19:55

I think you should take a photo of the dramatic posing and do a „top 12 dressing gown of doom“ desktop photo calender….will keep you amused next year too!

sprigatito · 24/06/2024 19:59

Yes! My 19yo DS is definitely a Pants of Pestilence person (though in his case they are more Bubonic Boxers) when it's too hot for his beloved Dressing Gown of Doom. He's always been a little drama queen, when he was ill as a little tot he would insist he had the most outlandish things. I'll never forget "I've got gout" when he had an infected toe nail...or "I think I've got jet lag" when leaving the park after overdoing it on his new bike.

Our DGoD was upgraded a few years ago to include 'misery joggies'

This has made me laugh!

AtrociousCircumstance · 24/06/2024 20:01

So most of the time he looks after you? And the poor bastard isn’t allowed a bit of a wallow when he feels shit?

Sounds like he’s earned his pants of pestilence?

Everygrain · 24/06/2024 20:03

Ah, the thermometer, every time DH gets a sniff he shoves the thermometer in his mouth, several times a day, and looks quite put out if it's not a bit high.
