Extra wide fit toddler sandals!

meganna · 24/06/2024 15:22

Toddler DS2 has H width feet...super broad. I am really struggling to get sandals that fit him this year - clarks/next etc only does up to G width.

I can't be the only one to ever have this problem. Hoping the hive mind of Mumsnet can help me out...?

Sketchers trainers seem to fit him, are the sandals similarly wide does anyone know?

Geox have good wide fits. Also I seem to remember we had some ricosta ones once? (My teen boy also has had h+ width feet since birth, so thinking through what we’ve had in the past). I think we did have some of the Clarks g ones too - some types were cut more generously and we were able to make them work (despite him being h++ in their school shoes).

One of mine wore crocs until his feet grew and slimmed a bit but even now he has massive feet, now 15 yo and size 12

meganna · 24/06/2024 16:43

Thank you. I haven't heard of Ricosta so will look them up!

Are Geox wide? My nephew who has the narrowest feet ever wears Geox shoes so I discount them in my head.

Never even thought of crocs, they might do the job for now! Have one pair of Clark's G width that I'm hoping will stretch a bit with wear.

I think some geox are wide. If I remember right, they don’t classify them easily by wide / narrow, but the shop assistant knew which were the wider fit ones.
We also found getting the ones where you can adjust the back of ankle strap, if you’ve had to size up a bit for width, helps. You can bring the back of the ankle forward a bit in the shoe, which can help. I think.

There’s a kids shoe shop in farnborough called Shuzu that was really helpful for us a few years ago. Stocked some of these brands.

Skechers trainers work great for him now - age 13, men’s size 13 v wide feet! So def give those a try. And good luck for the future - I’ve managed to keep mine shod for years now though I’ve had a lot of returning and trying on over the years!

I was just looking on the Charles Clinkard web page. Sometimes their shops have good kids sections. The geox strada sandals rang a bell. I can’t quite remember which ones we had.

Have you got an independent shoe shop nearby? I found ours invaluable when mine were small with lots of brands I had never even heard of. The staff were really knowledgeable and helpful. Though not cheap!

Saltwater

I have some as an adult but they are super wide and started as a kids brand

Try in vinted

Mine are 3 years old and look brand new and I wear them all most days in summer

Yes sketchers trainers are the only "mainstream" brand that fit him currently so I was wondering if their sandals might fit the same.

There isn't an independent shop in our closest town but there's one about 30 mins away. Just a bit of a logistical nightmare getting to it! And didn't really fancy paying £40-50 on a pair of sandals he's only going to wear for a few weeks max before he grows out of them 😏

Oh yes I love my saltwaters, they're so comfy and still look like new 8 years on!

DS is not even 2 yet though so I feel like he needs something a bit more supportive. Saltwaters are so flat.

DS also has wide feet, and had Geox, Ricosta, Keen, and VivoBarefoot sandals and shoes when he was younger.

I remember high street shops trying to size up to the next too big size just so they could sell us something.

wwwwwwwwwwwwww · 24/06/2024 20:38

Dr Marten have sandals with a Velcro adjustable strap called moby.

Ha. Wait till he’s a growing young teen at scouts or doing d of e or something and he needs walking boots, and his feet are so giant none of the cheaper ones from millets fit any more and he’s grown out of 3 pairs over 12 months already at £70 each and you’re now looking at £150+ boots just to find something that will fit!

Though at least he’s not into designer trainers (just as well, they wouldn’t go on…)

AbstemiousBreakfast · 24/06/2024 21:06

I've generally been able to sell on DS's £ walking boots etc. on eBay, so that really helps.

mrssunshinexxx · 24/06/2024 21:07

Have a look on vinted

InTheRainOnATrain · 24/06/2024 21:07

Startrite do an H and they have quite a few of their summer styles on sale at the moment

Talipesmum · 24/06/2024 21:46

Re trainers - we found Nike Revolution trainers a good fit for quite a few years. Sports direct, quite cheap. New balance are also well known for having a wide range.

Best of luck!

Blouson · 24/06/2024 21:50

Ricosta are German I think, you'd need the "Weit" fitting which is wide. No direct size comparison with UK to EU sizing so you need to ideally go to a shoeshop who sells them.

Backhometothenorth · 24/06/2024 22:03

Birkenstock two-strap sliders are great for wide feet and reasonable price - DD2 is also an H
