A Starbucks question maybe for a barista?

I am currently handling a newborn I am basically surviving on caramel machiato from Starbucks at this point I have just reached gold tier on my Starbucks app and I now get free syrups espresso etc.

I am wondering if there's a way of customising another/cheaper drink with my freebies to make a caramel machiato or close to it?

I used to work at Starbucks years ago so may be outdated advice but a caramel macchiato is basically a latte with vanilla syrup(one less pump) and caramel drizzle on top (the shot of coffee goes in just before the caramel)
So you could order a latte with the syrup and drizzle as free extras? Maybe ask for the coffee on top 😊

It's a vanilla latte with caramel drizzle on top. It makes no difference to the taste putting the espresso on top it just looks pretty.
Try a vanilla latte with an extra pump of caramel. Don't know if you can get caramel drizzle as a free extra.

Yes appearance is something I don't notice anymore!

This is genius… I am going to try this.

Just had a look on the app and it would save 75p per drink 👌

How is a macchiato basically a vanilla latte? Isn't a macchiato a double espresso with a little spoonful of foamed milk on top?

ExhaustedCoffeedrinker · 13/02/2025 18:32

@rbe78 a traditional macchiato is a different thing to Starbucks take on a caramel macchiato.

I have a vague memory (nearly 20 years since I worked at Starbucks) that it has less coffee than a same size latte. Eg 1.5 shots of espresso instead of 2.

Although I’ve now googled and doesn’t seem like that’s the case. It’s the same as a vanilla latte with caramel syrup.

Starbucks questions always get interesting because menu options can vary a lot depending on customization, caffeine levels, and even the location you’re ordering from. Baristas usually know the best combinations, but checking the menu beforehand definitely makes ordering easier. I often look up drink details online first so I can compare sizes, ingredients, and seasonal options without holding up the line. That’s why is useful since it keeps menu categories and customization information organized in one place.
