Jo Malone prices!

I was trying out some Jo Malone perfumes in John Lewis yesterday. So lovely, but so pricey. The one I really liked, Myrrh and Tonka, was only available from 50ml upwards. The 50ml one was £112. Just seems a lot of money.

I love the scents and bought one once but was really disappointed. I didn't find the scent lasted that long. I haven't bothered since!

Debtfreeme · 23/06/2024 12:44

If you go on perfume parlour you can get dupes at a quarter of the price and really nice too.

loudbatperson · 23/06/2024 12:46

I love the Jo Malone Pear and Freesia. I recently ran out and tried the version offered by the essence vault. It's a damn good dupe, and under £30 for a 100ml bottle.

I'm not saying I won't ever buy myself
The real one again, but probably less often.

Used to go to JM and loved it but like everything else it's been overpriced. Didn't they get sold? I only have to look at the clientele to know why the prices are high.

Just checked. Sold to Estee Lauder some yrs ago.

ASighWasMadeOfStone · 23/06/2024 14:36

Yep. Those fancy boxes, ribbons and sleek minimalist stores aren't going to pay for themselves!
JM products smell beautiful, but are incredibly overpriced for very simple, linear scents which are mainly colognes anyway - so a high percentage of alcohol as opposed to actual raw perfume ingredients.
Thankfully, they are such simple scents, they're easy to replicate/dupe.
As pp says, Perfume Parlour dupes are excellent for the more unusual ones (their seasalt sage wood wotsit is a spot on dupe) while the more ubiquitous citrussy ones (lime basil mandarin) etc can be found everywhere from Superdrug to H&M. I've got a Superdrug one- it was £2.99

Yes, I was watching the assistant wrapping up a customer's purchase and it reminded me of the Rowan Atkinson scene in Love Actually! Smile

I love the tonka one too - divine. To be fair; it’s the same price as it was when I fell in love with it two years ago, but it is pricey.

I’ve never found a dupe but please let me know if you do!!

OhFlapJack · 23/06/2024 15:16

I have the perfume parlour dupe of myrrh and Tonka bean and also the cardamom and mimosa - both lovely.

Wouldn't pay Jo Malone prices now!

User1974 · 23/06/2024 15:17

I only buy them when they do the spinning wheel offers so you get 2 for 1 or something - the prices have gone up so much it's ridiculous.

Yes! I'm always sure that's a Jo Malone piss take. 😂

Zara & M&S do some great dupes - just ordered some. Won’t pay that much for perfume anymore.

lapochette · 23/06/2024 15:25

I love JM pear and sweet pea but got a shock at the price when I last bought a bottle at Christmas. I also like blue agava and cacoa, wood, sage and sea salt. I grudge the price but I am really fussy as some perfumes give me a headache so I just have to hold my nose and pay for it (pun intended Wink).

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 23/06/2024 15:27

It's over priced and never lasts. I'd rather spend 90 quid on Jean Paul Gaultier La Belle which actually lasts the whole day on me and isn't quite so mainstream.

Christ0nABike · 23/06/2024 15:31

I’ve been wearing it for years and get a big bottle every couple of birthdays. I buy the smaller bottles from eBay to chick in my handbag and can usually get a nearly full one for under £25. Never found a dupe or another perfume that I love as much!

Mangolover123 · 23/06/2024 15:36

Jo Malone herself is now doing Jo Loves, a bit cheaper then JM.
Nice fragrances

YouOKHun · 23/06/2024 15:37

I started buying JM when it first opened in London in the 90s. I have always loved Lime Basil and Mandarin and also Grapefruit but the 100ml is now well over £100 and I’ve tried other JM scents recently and none of them seem to last.
About three years ago I treated myself to the Nectarine Blossom & Honey scent and body cream. I put both products on but 5 minutes later I couldn’t smell it and nor could anyone else! I was given a small bottle of the LB&M a couple of years ago and that doesn’t have the staying power it used to. I am not a fan of Estée Lauder either so once that small bottle of LB&M is finished that’s it for me, especially as the small bottle now costs way more than the 100ml did not that long ago!

kitsuneghost · 23/06/2024 15:37

Fool and their money as they say.

Sheknowsaboutme · 23/06/2024 16:15

I always buy my perfumes from Zara, Mango, Next & M&S.

my friend is a label freak and loves Creed, the pink bottle. I absolutely hate it!

last week i had a Zara perfume on and some one saud “oh you smell nice!”. And said nothing to Miss Creed expensive perfume 😂

some Charlotte tilbury are ok but I wouldn’t go out if my way to buy them.

aldi do nice ones, dupes of JM. They’re ok actually.

Yeah, Jo Malone prices are definitely up there, If you’re looking for something similar without spending over £100, ARfragrances has a lot of really good dupes. Their Myrrh & Tonka inspired scent is spot on and lasts really well too – way more budget-friendly!

All good perfumes are pricey sadly . I did the same on wed and loved the dark amber and ginger Lilly cologne . One for Christmas.
