Replace carpets or clean them?

I've had my upstairs carpets for four years. They do need a clean, but they also look quite worn, like there's been a lot of traffic over them.

Is it worth getting them professionally cleaned?

I live alone with DS5 and I don't know how (or where) I'd move all of the upstairs furniture so that I could have new carpets fitted.

we have carpet in one bedroom and stairs and landings…..been down 4 years ….not worn…..be another 4 years at least before we replace ours…..we clean ours once a year with a rug doctor from any of the high street shops……costs about 30 quid….hire it for 24 hours ( share with my DD as she also does her carpets)…..we move furniture around as we clean…..always comes up a treat….paid 100 quid once to have it done professionally and didn’t look any better…..nothing like pouring the dirty water down the drain and seeing how filthy the carpets actually were …..the water is actually black😳
I would spend 30 quid doing this first before buying new carpets…..what carpets have you got? …..better to pay more for a carpet and it last than go cheap ( not saying you gone cheap!) …..we got a good wool mix and premium grade underlay…..still look really good when cleaned

you could share the expense with a friend and help each other clean and move furniture around

Blimey.... Four years for an upstairs carpet is really bad! Yes, try cleaning first, carpets should last many, many years. We are on 20 years, never cleaned, never changed!!

Apart from the financial cost, environmentally, replacing your carpets after 4 years is insane.

It's a good idea to get the carpet cleaned once a year. You can do it yourself easily. Try asking a friend if they have a cleaner you can borrow or rent one. It's worth it.

Thank you.

I have hired a rug doctor twice over the years, and it comes up ok but looks crap again quite soon.
