Hi. Im after a few pointers. My son (age 12) has askes for some sort of hair product so he can start styling his hair.

He has specifically asked for something that isn't overly crunchy feeling and that he can apply to dry hair when he is getting ready for school in the mornings. He showers the evening before. I imagine he wouldn't be keen on a wet look either.

His hair type is very thick, straight and silky. It has natural tenancies to lay forward over his forehead.

My hair product knowledge goes as far as gel and mousse. Id love to hear what your boys use. Any suggestions? I don't mind picking him a few bits to try but nothing super premium and very expensive please 😅

A Matt clay or putty would be best if he doesn’t want crunchy, maybe some hairspray like Elnett that’s brushes out also. I even use this clay when I’m doing a slicked back ponytail or small braids etc. https://www.boots.com/loreal-men-expert-barber-club-messy-hair-styling-matt-clay-75ml-10279155?awaid=2041&utmsource=redbrain&utm_medium=shopping&utm_campaign=css&gbraid=0AAAAADA7Q_LWtNnfzmWhLx_6C-iSHdBsw&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIk8zfnqzxhgMV_YFQBh2Fxwg7EAQYASABEgJa-vD_BwE

I have thick straight silky hair that falls flat and both products work for me, I’ve used them when I’ve had a pixie cut and also now that I have long hair. A putty/clay worked best as you can rework the hair throughout the day

Hair powder seems to be the new thing in our house.

Thats interesting. Never heard of hair powder! Does it hold the hair in position or just give a thicker look?

It makes it thicker and sort of mouldable. DS had tried gel and found it didn’t last all day on his floppy, quite silky, hair. This gives it a lot more texture and hold to play around with.
Feels horrible to the touch though - IMO! - but doesn’t bother him.
