Beloved cat missing, really upset

My cat has been missing since Thursday early hrs when I last saw him jump out about 1-2am. He's very timid and it's unlike him to be gone this long and go far. I'm worried I'll never find him or anybody else as he's probably hidden or been injured and hidden himself. He's microchipped and I've made sure his details are updated and it's logged that he's missing, I've contacted local vets, social media and have put up posters. We've been out each night walking all locally calling him to no avail and are very worried. We live on main roads but nobody has found him including us. My theory is he's been injured by whatever and gone off to hide himself and died so it'll be hard to ever find him. Usually every little noise or spook makes him come running home so this is very worrying. It's agonising not knowing what's happened to him.

I can't see that he's gotten into a garage as he went out about 1/2am when I last saw him and it's unlikely anybody would have a garage open at that time and also they would most likely have opened it again by now and he'd have come out. He's also scared of many objects such as our kitchen bin, cardboard boxes etc let alone going in garages. I can't understand what's happened, it's like he vanished into thin air. I can't believe nobody has seen him or he hasn't come out to us calling him. He wouldn't have been stolen as he is too timid and aggressive to go near, and I doubt he got into a vehicle either for the same reason and the sort of time he went missing. I 100% think he's hidden and died unfortunately and am broken. Nobody has reported him as deceased yet thankfully so am stumped. Nobody has seen him, potential sightings but they were another cat. He's tabby so blends in well to bushes etc.

I'm just very worried with him being timid that we won't ever find him.. I'd like to hear your stories if possible of possibly ever having had a timid cat who disappeared for a long time out of their character and came back a while later/was found safe and well please? I'm really struggling 😢

Thank you, I'm getting more and more worried as time goes on. I'm naturally a very impatient person in general so this has been horrible, I just hope he'll be okay. Every little scary thing for him used to make him come running back so am very worried. I hope he'll be safe and nothing will hurt him 💔🙏🏻

@Concerned2024

i hope he turns up soon!!

my twatty cat got into someone's garage & got himself stuck in the roller door workings. fortunately when we went in to check their garage (they said he wouldn't be in there as their car hadn't been out in 3 weeks, thankfully I'm pretty persuasive!!) we went in a side door off the garden! Or it could have been very traumatic.

go and ask your neighbours if you can check their garages & sheds!! Don't just put fliers through the door. (And use any garden/side doors possible!!)

Ouch I hope he was ok and not injured or anything. Poor guy. Yeah this is horrible, I regret ever letting him out but he loved outside I just hope he ends up being well. It's been 3 days now and I'm frantic.

One of mine was gone for 3 weeks earlier this year. I couldn’t understand how she had vanished as she’s so timid. Whilst microchipped she also had an Apple AirTag on her collar which had stopped the day she went, which I now think was someone removing the battery/destroying it. No sightings for 2 weeks until a message on facebook with a photo of her a mile away. My theory is she was taken, kept in for a bit then let out or escaped.

Don’t give up hope yet.

It’s the not knowing isn’t it? We had terrible weather here and I’d lay awake at night worried sick about her. Mine isn’t the most intelligent of cats but kept herself alive.

Good luck and I hope you get him back soon.

RoobarbAndMustard · 23/06/2024 16:55

When one of our cats went missing I hung her blanket on the washing line hoping she would smell it and come home, which she did after 3 days.

ilovesooty · 23/06/2024 16:55

I hope he comes back soon. It must be horrible for you.

Wow 3 weeks. I bet you gave up hope? Yeah it's the being in limbo is horrendous and where it's summer I'm worried if he is alive and trapped somewhere he isn't dehydrating and getting weak. I want to go and protect him and bring him home to look after and feel awful not knowing what's happening. He is my shadow and would follow me everywhere even though he was a grumpy git and it's been weird without my little shadow around. I've logged it on next door, fb, pets reunited and nothing. Potential sightings but not him, because he's a tabby and doesn't really have any distinguishing features he blends in well which is perfect for him being so timid lol

@RoobarbAndMustard we have put old clothes scattered around the local area and also outside our flat. Have been wary about the litterbox/food advice as it seems mixed from what I've heard with people saying it attracts predators and makes your cat stay further away and others saying it helped.

@ilovesooty thank you, me too. I would be so so happy if he came back 🥹 he meant the world to me

He came home! I absolutely cannot believe it. We got a call from someone really late after seeing our flyers saying they saw my cat on the other side of the busy city about 0.7 miles away so I was surprised as I honestly thought he was hiding somewhere quiet because he's so timid. My partner went out to look for him straight away and I stayed at home and I hear him turn up meowing. I was amazed, he must have been having fun and not been lost as he found his way here straight away after the call which was clever as he honestly is never far at all, I truly didn't think it would be a happy ending.... I'm so grateful and thankful he's safe and well. He's very tired but was very hungry and thirsty with a bit of cobweb in his whisker but seems fine. Thanks to everyone who's given advice and support, it's the best thing ever and I'm so relieved. I hope this gives hope and comfort to others who are currently going through this as this was really unlike my boy to do and I thought it impossible yet he went missing for almost 96hrs 😍

Was just about to add my message of support but then saw your update! I'm so happy for you OP!
My cat when missing last year when she was staying with adult DD while we were on holiday. Was so awful. I couldn't tell younger DC as they'd be heartbroken, so had to suffer in silence which spoiled my holiday somewhat!
She came back of her own accord though.

urbanbuddha · 24/06/2024 03:41

That’s great news! So happy for you, and him.

marigoldandrose · 24/06/2024 03:53

That's wonderful news OP, very pleased to hear it

Whiskeyandkittens · 24/06/2024 04:04

Oh wow was just reading through and was about to offer some support then saw your update - what a relief, so pleased for you!

The mum of two of ours who is an indoor cat, very skittish with strangers and jumpy, got out earlier this year. Her owners advertised everywhere, did everything they could, put up posters etc and had just about given up hope.

After a MONTH - they had a call from someone who had seen a cat matching her description around their allotment, and it WAS her! Much skinnier but must have been able to catch things to live on - but she is now home safe and well and all recovered from her ordeal . A MONTH!

CalicoPusscat · 24/06/2024 04:15

Yay, fantastic news! Such a relief he's well and home. Naughty boy.

ilovesooty · 24/06/2024 06:17

I'm so happy for you!

Claysta · 24/06/2024 06:38

Hurrah! Came on here this morning to check and saw he was home! Great news ! X

ParadiseLaundry · 24/06/2024 06:40

heldinadream · 24/06/2024 06:43

Fantastic news OP!
Can we have a pic of the naughty stop-out? 😍

FlaminHeckAilsa · 24/06/2024 06:45

So happy for you. What a relief!

Igneococcus · 24/06/2024 06:47

Are you in Argyll by chance @Concerned2024 and your cat is called Laurel?

CarrieMoonbeams · 24/06/2024 07:10

Aww that's brilliant news @Concerned2024 , I'm so happy for you 🤗.

Our wee fluffy friends always like to give us something to worry about don't they?! So glad he's home safe after his big adventure ❤️

FuzzyPuffling · 24/06/2024 07:25

Hurrah! I am so delighted
Naughty kitty...grounded! 😄

Concerned2024 · 24/06/2024 07:45

Thanks to everyone for the lovely messages ❤️
I was so amazed, I never expected it as it's so out of his character and also to find out he'd been hanging out in busy areas and not hidden somewhere scared and alone was a shock. It was so cute to hear him turn up with a meow. At least he's enjoyed his jollies whilst I've been worried sick eh 🙄 cats lol. No I'm not in Argyll but I feel for anyone who's in a similar position as it's horrendous not knowing what's happened and hearing cases where they've turned up months or even years later is crazy.

Here's the cheeky boy in question.

@needhelpwiththisplease

They found him when they got to wales.

That is some big time cheeky fuckery from your naughty cat. A free holiday!!

Concerned2024
Congrats! I know the feeling well. Our first cat, a calico, disappeared as a youngster for two weeks. After a number of sightings of every other coloured cat under the sun, mum found her by the railway line!

LoobyDoop2 · 24/06/2024 09:11

Oh that’s such good news, thank goodness. Give him an extra cuddle from me!
