For me it’s currently solitude. Space and quiet for myself.

OP posts:

Watching my son play cricket. I like to take a posh picnic and make a day of it. We go for a cooked breakfast first then on to match. When the sun shines there is nothing more lovely to do.

Dogs.

I’m tired and misread this as ‘slugs’ and thought ‘That’s pretty niche’.

Being by the sea, theatre, walking in the woods, art, opera, books, gardening, my job when it goes well.

What a lovely thread - I feel happy just reading it!

For me dogs, mountains (and the outdoors in general) and as someone else has said a good charity shop bargain.

verdantverdure · 23/06/2024 07:15

Slow mornings, a day with no plans, being in and around water, or trees, birdsong, animals, our pets, feeding the birds/geese/ducks/swans, temperate weather, a good book, colour coordination, growing a garden, Tories being democratically voted out of office.

That powerful pocket of quiet space when you first wake up where you contemplate & determine your day.

This is why I like to wake the children up as gently as possible without talking so they get to enjoy it too.

TootGoesTheOwl · 23/06/2024 07:58

My dogs (important distinction, not all dogs!)
Anything to do with horses, I ride very rarely now but love watching my daughter ride.
A really good boozy night out with friends.
Keeping the house clean, tidy and freshly decorated.
A newly made bed.
A few hours peace in the morning before the teenagers crawl out of their pits!

ViciousCurrentBun · 23/06/2024 08:21

Walking in the countryside and especially by rivers and waterfalls. I’m on holiday in a small stone cottage with a glorious view over a huge tree covered hill currently, really beautiful. Have a while week of hikes planned, shorter ones this time.

@Pompleandprim I understand what you mean, babies always stare at me and I can make them smile easily.

Mairzydotes · 23/06/2024 08:25

Music. Particularly if I have a standing ticket at a concert! Or listening to something I really enjoy alone, with no interruptions.

Alone time. Weekend mornings are the best for this. No-one wanting to interact, just me, in my spot, with a brew 😊
