Ellaone- has it ever failed anyone on here?

I know I'm being paranoid; DTD on Monday night, contraceptive failure, got Ellaone on Tuesday morning and took it. Was on day 17 of my cycle, so within the ovulation period (so pharmacist said, I've never looked at it so don't know timeframes for that). I feel so sick today and nauseous and my boobs hurt. I know even if I was pregnant, I would not have symptoms this early, but my mind is racing and I just want to know if anyone had a MAP failure with Ellaone?

Okay, EllaOne or any MAP only works by blocking ovulation. If you have already ovulated, which is possible, then none of them will stop it.

On top of that, each medication has an x % efficacy rate in blocking ovulation

As you said, those symptoms right now are irrelevant. Even if you did ovulate, and sex was perfectly timed, you're still fairly unlikely to get pregnant on one go

CassieMaddox · 22/06/2024 19:15

If you took it on Tuesday the sore boobs/sickness could be a hormonal side effect from that
Definitely won't be pregnancy. It was only 4 days ago! Unless you took a risk a different time, in which case do a PG test to put your mind at ease

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl so if I did already ovulate, does that mean the MAP offers no protection and I could get pregnant?

OP posts:
fluffmellow · 22/06/2024 19:50

@CassieMaddox thanks for that, I know the symptoms wouldn't be pregnancy related rationally but then I fell down the rabbit hole of what ifs.

Unfortunately yes @fluffmellow

fluffmellow · 22/06/2024 19:59

@IWillBeWaxingAnOwl thank you for confirming. I guess I will just have to wait and see.

Sorry probably not what you want to hear but morning after pill failed me. Same as you, contraception failure, had just come off long term contraception and cycle wasn't regular so had no idea where I was in cycle. Took morning after pill but life had other plans! First and only time DTD in months; I really am still in shock over it - I thought these things only happened to other people. I think it is very, very unlikely but wanted to say it does happen!

runningonberocca · 22/06/2024 20:03

I had the nausea and bloody awful breast tenderness after the MAP. Wasn’t pregnant but had the same panic you did!

It only works by stopping ovulation so if you had ovulated already it may be too late. fingers crossed for you!

fluffmellow · 22/06/2024 20:09

@runningonberocca according to an online calculator, it was on the final day of ovulation so I really don't know if it means it will have prevented it or not.

@Welcometothehumanrace ah. I also feel like 'it only happens to other people'. I hope you're keeping well things have worked out for you.

It failed me. No regrets because I thought it was meant to be.

fluffmellow · 22/06/2024 20:12

I'm lucky in that it will not be awful if it did happen, but it's very much not the plan.

itsgettingweird · 22/06/2024 20:15

I fell pg after MAP.

I knew about 3 days before my period was due and tested positive day it didn't arrive.

As others said if ovulation is off it won't work.

You can test when your period is due if it's late and you have other options then.

AnIntrovert · 22/06/2024 20:17

EllaOne also alters the endometrial lining helping in preventing implantation, not just ovulation.

TattedBarley · 22/06/2024 20:39

Any time I’ve had the morning after pill I’ve had the same symptoms as you - they’re very common side effects but the advice is generally to do a pregnancy test 21 days after

AnIntrovert · 22/06/2024 21:27

Also your period might be delayed, it is quite normal.

Macibell · 18/10/2024 18:38

Hey! Can I ask what the outcome was ? Did your monthly’s arrive ?

Bella6761 · 24/06/2025 10:04

Did you get pregnant btw

Thatslife234 · 09/07/2025 18:30

@fluffmellow how did you get on? Following as I'm in the same boat. Only it would be a disaster for me.

fluffmellow · 11/07/2025 10:37

Oh wow @fluffmellow your thread came up today and I didn’t think you’d get pregnant either when I started reading through but massive congratulations and I hope you’re enjoying being a mum! 💜

TheOnlyWayisGerard · 11/07/2025 12:06

Congrats OP! My MAP failure celebrates her 15th birthday next month. Once ovulation happens, there's a fair chance it will fail. Hope you get the result you want @Thatslife234 .
