Children dying in cars due to heat

I know people say accidents happen, but I genuinely can’t understand how people leave their kids in the car and forget about them.

I mean, even when I was so exhausted I forgot my own name, I still had my children in my forefront of my mind.

It’s a heartbreakingly sad and I do feel sorry for the parents when they discover they left their kids in the car but I still don’t understand how.

Or, like in straight relationships, the working parent didn't bother to think about it because they view the children as the SAHP's responsibility. And maybe the SAHP thought the working parent was being useful for once. Who knows.

It's just odd to me that no one thought about feeding, changing or putting the baby to bed in the evening. Even if you thought the other parent had done it, I still would have thought you'd want to say goodnight to your baby too.

Yes, this one is a bit odd. Not the same scenario as a parent forgetting to drop a baby at daycare and then going to work.

How awful. Did they feed and look after their pets? Probably so why didn’t they think of feeding their baby?

Isn't the Mail usually pretty homophobic? I'm quite indifferent to gay rights or social issues (sorry) but considering the Mail has a much-vaunted track record of making shit up whenever it feels like it, it's v possible they've omitted key details (or just added in whatever they're able to make up like all that stuff in the article about bonsai and whatever)

What has gay rights got to do with their child dying from being left in the car?

Please don't be obtuse.

Don’t forget in America the temperatures get much higher and they get absolutely minimal maternity, paternity and annual leave. So they’re all overworked and exhausted.

It doesn't just happen in America! There was a case where I live, the parent didn't usually drop the child off in the morning and forgot they were in the car.

It's horrific, but I can see how it can happen. People zone out on their way to work, thinking of the day ahead, and just function on autopilot.

No, but it’s more prevalent there.

You might have a point there

Is it not likely that a homophobic publication would make more of a case in which the child of two gay parents died than it would of a case in which the child of heterosexual parents did?

I don’t see how the gender of the parents makes what happened worse because the death of a child is terrible. If a man and a woman parent duo had their child die in these circumstances it would terrible just as for gay parents. I don’t get the spin that you find in the article.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 25/06/2024 13:51

I asked a question; I drew no conclusion. Spin, or the lack of it, is clearly in the mind of the beholder. But I have to admit that I would never expect anything except bias, and sensationalism in line with their bias, from the Daily Mail...
