Wembley advice please. Walking to Preston Road to beat the queues?

Hoping some clever Mumsnetter can help please. We're heading to Wembley tonight and staying in Uxbridge, I know we've got until around 12.45 to get the tube but I was wondering if it's better to walk to Preston Road and avoid the slow moving queue, I can see on Google maps you can do so and avoid Wembley way (unless everyone is herded that way) it looks to be a 30 min walk ish but I can't see if it's on pavements etc I don't want to have to walk along a dual carriage way etc. any help would be greatly appreciated Smile

It is an easy straightforward walk along pavements etc, but you are likely to still be stuck in walking traffic no matter what way you leave! Wembley Way looks horrendous when you see it on screen but it clears very quickly. The staff at the stadium & the train station are very used to clearing everyone out after big events and it is very well organised. Much easier & quicker than trying to get a car out if you park in one of the car parks by the retail park for an event.

I agree with @teatimefortiger
Exiting Wembley runs like a well oiled machine. The staff are very well practiced in getting everyone to where they need to be. Everything looks chaotic or very slow but it's not really. I definitely would not be heading off on roads that I don't know in order to try and beat queues for the tube.
If you really want to try it then can you google the route and 'walk' it that way but please bear in mind that occasionally there is trouble with local youths away from the main areas of Wembley Park. I wouldn't do it - I'd just queue for the bus or tube.

Thank you both that's really useful and good point about going off on roads we don't know! I'll join the queue 😀

My daughter was going to do this last night and I can ask later. As I think still in bed .....

just join the queue, I have done it many times, it is the best safest and fastest way to get out of Wembley. There won't be less queue your way, it will just be less well supervised

Also, if you're going out of town, towards Uxbridge, Preston Road is the stop after Wembley, so all the trains coming through will fill up at Wembley.

I was there last night, left when Taylor had finished, followed the crowd and was on a tube within 20 minutes! It’s SO well organised

So they walked to Alperton - 30 mins, all fine
