Question for those who co-parent and had a dog at point of split?

Do you share care of the dog as well?

We acquired dog in between acquiring the DCs (15 and 9) and since we split (amicably, and ex just lives up road) Ddog goes with DC when the kids do. She's adored in both homes and is always around her people.

Just wondering if this is the norm or if we're weird after someone recently passed comment.

I have no idea whether it is the norm but it sounds pretty good to me.

Borris · 21/06/2024 23:13

We didn't do that but I do look after the dog when XH goes away. I like the dog a lot more than I like him 😂

AreolaGrande · 21/06/2024 23:27

Fair dos @Borris!

This way works for dog, works for us plus I get proper free weekends to go away/go down the pub etc so everyone's a winner 🏆

Probably unusual but I alway joke that it was a good job the dog died before my parents divorced as they could not of split the dog in half like they did with my sibling and I.

if it works for you carry on

Starlightstarbright3 · 21/06/2024 23:30

Sounds like it is working for everyone . So good for you all .

i love positive co parenting stories . Wish I had any sort of similar story.

SauvignonBlonk · 22/06/2024 08:38

That sounds great OP.
Sadly no similar tales here, ex at one point suggested his dog (that he never asked for custody of) could be sent round to his in a taxi on Friday nights. Ha ha ha
Who orders a taxi for their dog!

I know I shouldn't laugh at this because your ex sounds mental but the picture it conjours up of the dog sat on the seat in the back of the taxi by itself is hilarious! What kind of dog was it?

SauvignonBlonk · 22/06/2024 09:19

Joking apart: at least he is your ex. It sounds as though you are well rid of him.

SauvignonBlonk · 22/06/2024 11:40

@Everythingiscalmfornow yep, every day I’m glad he’s not in my house, for a multitude of reasons!
