Well there's still time for the polls to change, so let see who ends up being on the ticket and hope for the best

That's a shame; Trump will now win, going by the polls.

I really don't think that's a foregone conclusion. It's going to hang on how the Democrats handle things from now on and who ends up as candidate. I do think he's doing the right thing. I'm relieved.

MagicFox · 21/07/2024 19:10

The polls showed that Trump would win against Biden. This is an eminently sensible move imo given his debate performance, the gaffs, the focus on his age. Now Trump will be the oldest contender, the one inciting politics violence. This is the only thing that might change things - it's the right thing

Politics of violence, sorry my autocorrect is awful!

Argh!!! POLITICAL VIOLENCE. I need a new phone

The polls showed that Trump would win against any of the candidates other than Biden by a greater margin that he would win against Biden, so I am not about to rejoice over a rather more outside chance than the world had this time last month.

He was going to lose and he was at risk of bringing those further down the ticket down alongside him, it was the right decision.

Assuming as Biden has endorsed her it’ll be Kamala, wonder who her running mate will be.

Peter Zeihan gives hope on the polls: podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-peter-zeihan-podcast-series/id1702067155?i=1000662731128

I really hope he enjoys as long and happy a retirement as he can get.

Natsku · 21/07/2024 19:42

Glad he's stepped down, whether or not he worsens the chances of the Democrats winning, it just wouldn't be right to keep him running, he should be able to finish his work and then retire in peace.

Hypothetical polling question.

Now there will be a real choice for the USA & the democrats can go for Trumps age, as he went for Biden's,Trump is hardly lucid himself.....

Uphill task but they were generated to lose if Biden stayed in, they now have a chance, however slim.

MagicFox · 21/07/2024 19:50

Did Biden endorse Kamala, or just give her high praise?

OP posts:
MagicFox · 21/07/2024 19:51

I think at the moment it might still be an open question.

Did Biden endorse Kamala, or just give her high praise?

In a statement shared on X, he said: "Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year.”

Igotjelly · 21/07/2024 19:52

Sky News and CNN say we can expect to see other leading democrats endorse her too.

MagicFox · 21/07/2024 20:29

Ah...

Sorry to say I don't think Kamala is a goer so, again, something more drastic needs to happen to make biden's resignation worthwhile

OP posts:
Igotjelly · 21/07/2024 20:40

I see the Clintons have endorsed her too but that Pelosi hasn’t. Interested to see what Obama says.

MissConductUS · 21/07/2024 20:55

My goodness, I go out to buy a new mattress, and upon reconnecting I find that the situation has changed. 😳

I think they’ll regret it if they go with Harris.

Igotjelly · 21/07/2024 20:57

I see Obama has also not endorsed Harris.

Igotjelly · 21/07/2024 20:57

Is it wrong that I’m slightly excited by all the political podcast updates tomorrow 😂

Since you've been plugging the ousting of Biden for a while now, who do you want to see in his place (assuming they are prepared to run, which I gather a few of the possible contenders are not)?

Gina Raimondo or Josh Shapiro. Both are centrists with broad appeal and much better natural politicians than Harris.

MagicFox · 21/07/2024 21:09

I also think they'll regret it if they go with Harris. Let's see what happens. Also looking forward to the podcast analysis tmrw!

I agree. Harris will lose decisively to Trump. Someone else may have an outside chance. How will they decide on the candidate given its close to the election? A candidate has to be chosen quickly.
