Plate for the buffet ideas!

What's your go to when asked to take a plate for the buffet? I seem to be really boring, whilst other people make much more exciting things!
Give me some ideas please! All major supermarkets nearby, and I have all day tomorrow! Help!

Sorry, I’m very predictable - quiche (bought or home made). Finger sandwiches.

Nigella’s Cheesy Feet biscuits are easy and don’t have to be cut in foot shapes, you can just make cheese straws from the recipe.

Bowl of humous sprinkled with crumbled feta cheese and pomegranate seeds.
A nice salad (with dressing in a tub).
A plate of mixed charcuterie.

Quiche, sandwiches, Indian snacks, cheese, salads, pork pie, decent sausage rolls, scotch eggs, French stick, crisps and breadsticks

I always do one of the following;

  • potato salad with bacon and onion
  • jollof style rice
  • coleslaw
  • "cowboy beans" served warm and baked with onion, bacon etc
  • new potatoes in mint dressing.

I tend to do a home made pasta salad.

Usually with green or red pesto, feta cheese and olives. Simple but tasty and colourful.

Roasted Mediterranean herby vegetables
Roasted, lightly spiced tandoori chicken drumsticks
Eaton mess

What kind of buffet and crowd have you got?

BobbyBiscuits · 21/06/2024 22:41

Home made hummus, which is just chickpeas, garlic, tahini, lemon juice and olive oil. And tzatziki -yoghurt with cucumber, mint and garlic. Bulgar wheat salad, boiled in builloin stock, then add finely chopped cucumber, tomatoes, mint, parsley and spring onions, bit of lemon and good olive oil. All these are quite easy and tasty and not too expensive. And bring some posh flatbread?

My experience is that there will be a lot of carbs and a lot of desserts, so I like to take something with veg but easy to eat with fingers, so cherry toms and carrot, celery, pepper batons with a dip, for example. I tend to buy the dip but if you want to impress, you could make your own.
