The saying what does not kill you makes you stronger.

How much shit does someone have to go through before mother nature or who ever it is decides that's enough give her a break she's had enough now let her have some long term happiness she's had a life time of shit.

Or does it go as far as ah shit mother nature put to much shit on her. it killed her. Oops my bad sorry about that.

I always think this too, there’s a family near us and everyone used to say how lucky they were, all good jobs, wealthy fab house etc, except four out of five of them have had/ have cancer that is always coming back. Two of them have had parts of their body removed (part of stomach and the other lady breast) The two daughters have had a few miscarriages each and only the son has a child and is separated from his wife who said she couldn’t handle all the cancer etc. he’s definitely depressed. They’re all the loveliest happiest go lucky people and then every few months you hear one is fighting for their life. Horrible- what doesn’t kill you definitely doesn’t make you stronger

depends on the issues, doesn't it. Perfectly possible to have loads go wrong in your life and still be happy

Sunshineclouds11 · 21/06/2024 20:21

Thinking the same tbh.

StoatofDisarray · 21/06/2024 20:24

Yeah, it's right up there with that one about god never giving you more pain than you can handle. Simpering twaddle.

Didsomeonesaydogs · 21/06/2024 20:29

Reminds me of this:

What a load of shit
Whoami56 · 21/06/2024 20:39

I also don't understand why one person can get handed out so much shit. Whilst another has hardly anything. Why don't people get their fair share. Not that I wish bad on others.

Gosh if i didn't have kids.....

I think the wisdom and the strength you gain are a silver lining, not a fair trade off.

I hope it gets better for you OP.

Ds 9 has told me over 30 times that he loves me today 🥰

I feel like this sometimes then remember some have it much worse, which although it isn't comforting or a nice thought it makes me try and be a bit more at peace with my lot. It's shit though when life seems to be one thing after another.

That is awful for them. Sorry its hard to find words . I will just never understand why 1 family or 1 person have to deal with so much. I hope they come through it .

I hope so too, they’re so positive and lovely and they just keep going, amazing people!

Nietzsche said "What does not kill me makes me stronger". Fair enough for him, but as they say, your mileage may vary.

I think people quote it (usually with "you" instead of "me") because it sounds cool and quirky and counterintuitive, which passes for intelligence these days.

I did not know that was the true saying. The me sounds better .
