Leaving nursery- a card? A gift? Or is that weird.

So I've been paying people to look after my child for the last 3+ years and now they are leaving to go to school. What's the done thing here? Do I get all 8 members of staff a gift card? Is that weird.

Maybe buy a gift for their key worker or something for all staff to share

I made a hamper - A card, biscuits, chocolates, sweets, etc..... anything to put in office/ break room to snack on.

DrLucyVanPelt · 21/06/2024 19:45

When mine left I went with a joint staff gift. Did a personalised biscuit tin (off Etsy I think) with the nursery name on and filled it with treats. Seemed to be appreciated, and when we visited recently a few years after leaving, was told the biscuit tin was still in use which was nice!

DD's room had 4 pre-school teacher, one was her named carer.

We gave a small plant to all of them with a card saying Thank You and her named carer got a Waterstone voucher, she was a huge and vivid reader.

The office got some chocolate.

avocadotofu · 21/06/2024 19:48

When DS finished last year we gave £50 each to the key workers he'd been with since he was a baby. And a large box of chocolates for the rest of the team. I think they'd also have appreciated a card and some chocolates.

CelesteCunningham · 21/06/2024 19:49

We did a card with a message about all they'd meant to us, and some cash to put behind the bar at their next night out. It was well received.

Nousernamesavaliable · 21/06/2024 19:49

We have a nursery WhatsApp group set up with all the parents....we've all contributed money which is being transfered in to vouchers for an end of term meal/drinks out for them. Personally I can't thank them enough and will remember them for years to come for how fabulous they were/are. I like the thought they will be able to have a night out..3 course meal and drinks covered by very thankful patients.

Hello I work in early years and we really love a card to all of us, gifts aren't necessary but a card is always lovely!

Whereareyounowwwww · 21/06/2024 19:51

We went for key workers in pre school room - however we also gave gifts when DCs moved rooms too. DD started at Nursey when she was six months old - they helped her walk, talk , weaned her etc

Justhereforaibu1 · 21/06/2024 19:53

We got a small wicker basket ( think it was for logs or washing) and filled it with snacks, fruits a huge range of different bits. Put some free from things in too.

treacledan71 · 21/06/2024 19:56

A greggs voucher or something so they could get a coffee and a cake each.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 21/06/2024 20:03

A card, with a specific thank you/memory if you can e.g. "Thanks for looking after Timmy, he says you're the best at playing dinosaurs." If your ds would sign his name or draw a picture that'd go down well, or token chocolates/flowers/etc would be fine.

onwardandupwards · 21/06/2024 20:36

I ordered some thank you cupcakes for my dds nursery when she left and flowers for her keyworker. My ds leaves nursery in July after 3 years so will probably do the same

llamajohn · 21/06/2024 20:42

We're making a bug hotel for their garden. DD has been collecting twigs and pine cones and rocks and stuff for about 3-4 weeks now and we've been building it from a pallet, that's been cut up by DH. This is it in progress! ('scuse the patio weeds 😂) And I'll help her write a thank you card (mother gets all the fun jobs!)

@DrLucyVanPelt Love this idea, thanks so much for sharing

I’m an ex nursery worker (teacher now but that’s slightly different when it comes to end of year presents).
We had varieties of normal when children left. Some did just for the staff room (chocolates, biscuits, cupcakes, hampers), some did this and then a present for their child’s key worker. Some did this and a present for each member of staff in their last room. Did you give presents when children moved nursery rooms?

No, just Christmas. It's a tricky one as the staff all moved around a lot due to the shortages and a lot have left.

Do they want a bug hotel in their garden? That's pretty big.

It's not, it's like 1m wide and maybe 40 cm high.

And I did check before hand. 😁
