My friend really fancies it. I'm worried it will be full of lechy men. Anyone been to one? What did you think?

Do you mean a nightclub? Grin Not for a few years, but I am afraid wherever you go with groups of men present, there will unfortunately be at least one sleazy one.

RiverF · 21/06/2024 17:36

Is that really a thing? I go dancing quite often and the wonderful thing about "today" compared to when I was young is that things don't seem to be segregated by age.

I go out with 50 something friends and whilst we'll be the oldest, there'll be others our age and down to early 20s.

The other great thing is that men dance these days, which didn't happen much when I was young.

There'll be men there looking to meet women, but I don't think that automatically makes them lechy?

Went to Day Fever a few weeks ago. Lots of people dancing and having a good time. Didn’t notice many lechy men but then I wasn’t looking.

Do you mean like Day Fever? I had a ticket to go to Cardiff in May but was too knackered after a busy week in work. I’ve heard really good things about day discos, basically no one gets blasted and so I would hope that there are fewer people behaving in lechy way?

Menstrualcycledisplayteam · 21/06/2024 17:38

Yes, went to one in Birmingham a few months ago - was great fun. No lechy men, that I spotted.

YeahWhateverGoAway · 21/06/2024 17:39

Oooh this is great to read as me and my friend have just gotten tickets for day fever! I'm so excited by the thought of dancing all afternoon. :)

SlipperyLizard · 21/06/2024 17:40

Went to Day Fever Manchester a couple of weeks ago. No lechy men, as far as I could see nearly all the men there were with their partners/female friends.

Florence4170 · 21/06/2024 17:42

Ah, thanks! Not heard of Day Fever but I think it's a disco in the afternoon, probably finishes at about 7 so we can all be in our jammies and ready to go up by 8.30😀.
I'll go and get some tickets!

Yes I’ve been to one! It was brilliant, the music was great, they played all 90s hits and dance classics. No creepy men. I want to go again!

Girlwithapple · 21/06/2024 19:08

I was at one a few months ago, the people were normal groups of adults out enjoying themselves rather than letchy groups of guys.

The music was a really good selection. Unfortunately the venue we were at is quite run down and dated and the bar couldn't cope with the sheer volume of people there so the queues for the bar were ridiculous! For environmental reasons I wasn't keen on all of the free glow stick / wristband paraphernalia as hours later it would all be binned. If you are looking for somewhere to go along and have a dance it was worth going to though.

Yes, been to one in Sutton Coldfield town hall and then one in Birmingham Council House with a different group of friends. The one in Sutton was 80% women I would say and felt more like a school disco at an all girls school but with everyone 30-70. It was great fun. The Brum one was more mixed, but lots of couples and I didn’t feel there were any dodgy blokes there.

mindutopia · 21/06/2024 19:50

I went to a sober silent disco and it was genuinely the best time.

Thevelvelletes · 21/06/2024 20:00

Northern soul nites might be worth a try..most participants 40 plus only downside is most have been on the scene for decades can be some snobbery.

Natsku · 21/06/2024 20:03

Not to a day disco but I did got to an over 35s club once, played 80s and 90s music and no young people. It was nice but hardly anyone was dancing and in the end I went to the normal club next door.

Oldraver · 21/06/2024 20:08

I haven't been to one of the new day disco thingies but a couple of years ago was persuaded to go to a local over 30's disco

Well while everyone was enjoying themselves there was an element of a number of men just cruising round and round and I assume trying to pull.

It took me back to townie clubs 30/40m years ago with the men just now 50- 60 ish
