Just that really. I'm bored in a meeting.

Like my ex's name. Like mine.

My maiden name was ok. I like my married name. I kept it even though I remarried.

RaraRachael · 21/06/2024 12:09

Birth surname was ok but very unusual in my area which is a town with about 5 surnames.
Married name - so many variations of spelling i got fed up spelling it out.
OH's name - his family pronounce it in a different way to everyone else I've ever heard plus it's a Mc name and nobody ever knows where to put the capital letters

Don't like mine; I don't like the way I sound when I say it (either the whole thing or just the first or last on their own), and I don't think my first name sounds nice with my last name. In an ideal world I'd love to change one of my names, but I'm a bit old to do so now!

I like my DP's; his first name is not unusual exactly but quite striking and dignified. I like his last name too, although it's short and one of those that I think would sound odd with quite a lot of first names, although it suits his.

😂 love how everyone's gone down the surname route, I was thinking of first names! Thinking probably being the keyword there :D

Your post title is confusing.

You say "last DP's name" and I had to read it a few times to realise you meant your exes first name and not your DP's surname

Bbq1 · 21/06/2024 12:15

I loved my maiden name but i happily took my husband's name because I wanted us to have the same name and I really like it. It's a British name but unusual and is often misheard or misspelt. It's very much a name you say then spell it immediately afterwards to people. People of a certain age comment on it occasionally as they connect it with a pop culture thing many years ago.

Workawayxx · 21/06/2024 12:16

If first names, I like my ex's and current DP's names. Both classic boys names. I like mine but it's very popular (among my age group!).

I like my last name and my ex's last name was pretty cool (now my DS's last name). My boss said my ex's full name sounded like a spy or action hero! Not super keen on my current DP's last name - it's OK but sounds like a derogatory word.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 21/06/2024 12:19

I took my husband's name partly because I'd spent 32 years putting up with my maiden name being misspelt and mispronounced. I had no particular like or dislike of my name and also have no strong feelings about my husband's. But it's very easy to spell and pronounce!

CyanideShake · 21/06/2024 12:22

we both have fine names and we both kept our fine names.

A friend of mine had a lovely surname but chose to take her husband's name of Pratt. Could never be me!

Ah I assumed you meant surnames, not first names!

It's no biggie, just one of those ohhhh moments. I'm still enjoying the distraction

My birth surname was fine. Short, unremarkable, not uncommon. My married surname is ridiculous and I regret taking it (but love my husband).

Toasticles · 21/06/2024 12:30

Dh's surname is softer than mine. My maiden name is ok but has hard syllables and goes better with a longer, prettier first name and I was given a boring one syllable name (think along the lines of Jane, Clare, Kate). It never flowed nicely. So I changed it when I married.

Disturbia81 · 21/06/2024 12:31

Love my surname and wouldn't give it up for anyone

Bbq1 · 21/06/2024 12:35

Ahhh... love my dh's name. It's very traditional but not super common. It can be shortened but because dh introduced me with his full name, i use that. Other people shorten it, not dh. I love my own name - pretty and timeless and I like the way it is spelt. It can't be shortened only lengthened! My lovely dad was the only person to use the lengthened name in affection.

honeylulu · 21/06/2024 12:44

I like both mine and my husband's surnames (though kept my own because I didn't see why I should change mine if he wasn't expected to). I probably slightly prefer his as mine is quite long and similar to a more common name - something like Cunnington instead of Cunningham and people get it wrong a lot. It's also near the end of the alphabet which I hated when I was at school!

On the other hand his name is Scottish origin mispronounced SO often despite it being spelt phonetically - something like Laird for example which gets pronounced Layd or Lard in England, though folks abroad seem to get it right straight away!

Poor kids have both but told them they could drop one if they wished at secondary age, no pressure to choose but so far they've kept both.

Trewa · 21/06/2024 12:46

both of us had just fairly short standard surnames, didn’t like or dislike them, when we got married we choose a new surname to both have.

UnravellingTheWorld · 21/06/2024 12:49

Always hated my maiden name. The first five letters formed a word that's quite rude, so my driving license number was horrible!!!

My husband has a nice normal surname. Never even contemplated not changing mine - I dropped the old name as fast as I could!

longdistanceclaraclara · 21/06/2024 13:11

Hated mine, like husbands so I took it. Mine was really awful.

princesspadam · 21/06/2024 13:40

I still have my married name and it's ok

DP has a great last name and it goes so well with my first name, I'd take it tomorrow
Makes me sound like a mob wife 🤣
