Has anyone booked holiday through Gites de France recently? Or can recommend other sites?

There are a few reviews online, mostly negative, but also mostly old.

I have found a property on there that looks good but a bit nervous (the property itself has none as it's new).

Or can anyone recommend good sites to check for Normandy area apart from Booking.com?

I've used them loads of times. My parents used to book through them decades ago too! We've never had any problems - the site is easy to use and you can stagger payments. The properties are very variable in quality from extremely rustic to pretty luxurious but this is usually quite clearly reflected in the photos and price. You also need to check carefully about what is provided - often there is an additional cost for bed linen and end of stay cleaning which you usually need to communicate in advance if you want.

If you google the name of the property and the town/village I've often found them listed on other sites too with extra photos and maybe some reviews.

Brittany Ferries website also sells holidays with ferry and gite included. Their selection of properties is a lot smaller than it used to be but I think they have quite a few in Normandy. You would have to use one of their ferry routes, which are more expensive than Dover-Calais but I found they used to offer a bit of a discount if you book accommodation too.

Gîtes.co.uk and Gîtes.com are both independent sites not part of Air, Booking or Verbo.

Most Gîtes advertise of several different platforms so you can find the same house several times.

Brittany Ferries closed Holiday France Direct during Covid, although they do still do managed lettings.

Thanks, will check all those tomorrow.

Brittany Ferries site is really clunky, you have to call them and there are no prices or availabilities shown which is a real pain. There are a couple of cute places that they will probably tell me cost 2x my budget!

I’ve used gites de France for my holiday this year, I’ve used them on and off for about 15 years and never had an issue. (We’re off to Maçon.)

I agree that BF isn’t easy to use, we got some great deal on there in the past but now it’s just a pain.

I didn't realise Brittany Ferries had closed part of their holiday letting business. It is very rubbish now compared to how it used to be.
