16 dd and friend on same holiday as us but staying in separate accommodation - would you be ok with this?

Dd16 and her friend (almost 16) are coming away with us for a week on a very large holiday park on the south coast.

We (dh, myself and dog) are staying on the dedicated touring area with our touring caravan. Dd and and friend joined us last year and stayed in a tent next to the caravan but this year as a treat for sitting their exams I’ve paid for them to stay in a luxury lodge on the same site but it’s some way from the touring area (the site is so large there are little buses taking holiday makers from caravan area and through to the main entertainment area and to the private beach etc).

I was quite content with this set up and so too were the girls but my friend has said she thinks they are too young to be left to it and left alone all night! I’m having a wobble now. Yes they will be sleeping in the lodge on their own but obviously dh and I are on the site and just a call away, I’ll check in on them every day and each evening before bed, they aren’t holidaying completely independently.

Would you be ok with this set up?

I'm sure they are sensible although obviously at the end of the day 16 year olds think they know everything and there's a lot of potential for them to get into mischief. However my biggest worry would actually be will this be allowed? I would be very surprised if it wasn't actually against the terms and conditions of the holiday park.

Do the site know it's two unattended 16yos in that lodge? I doubt they would permit that...

No, friend has nothing to do with it, just my friend with her opinion.
Dd friend’s parents are fine with it all.

Surely the park won't allow this. Assuming you had to book it in your name etc.

However, re your actual question is your friend the mum of the other teen? If not then It is nothing to do with her.

Should have said, they are both sensible girls (well! Up to now that is!)

If the site permits it then it is a nice way for them to have some space & fun and to gently stretch their wings. I doubt it's going to a be a coke-fuelled orgy.

Friend was just stating that if she had a 16 year old dd she wouldn’t have been happy with this set up. Friend has no dc.

What?? What other thread!
I have a dd16 and ds18 unless dh has had a secret one somewhere.

I’m 51, 3 kids under 10 would be my idea of hell tbh

I would do it. They know where you are if they need you and you can check on them and swap if they suddenly go off the rails for some reason.

SomeInternetUser · 20/06/2024 16:26

Absolutely fine

Q124 · 20/06/2024 16:27

Holiday Parks don't allow that though.

It probably isn't though. It's not up to the OP. The holiday park will have terms and conditions and it's very likely they will say two 16 year olds cannot be the only ones staying in the lodge.

That’s what Im thinking. If it goes pear shaped I can go stay with them at night

a 16 year old girl and a nearly 16 year old girl... on their own overnight? i assume the friends parents are ok with this?

is the site aware that 2 minors will be unattended? I'm not 100% sure this would be allowed to be honest.

it's a no from me.. i'd be happy if they were in the tent next to us, but not on a completely different part of the site.

I went camping at 16 with 3 friends in the summer after finishing school before starting college . My friends Dad took to us a site in The Dales. Dropped us off.. came back a week later.
We lazed around. Swam and went walking.
We had all our camping equipment.. but three of us had been camping with the Girl Guides twice a year .
