Does anyone else get annoyed with Sara Cox?

She says things in a very strange way. I don't mean her accent. She sort of snuffles and mangles words. Or is it just me?

DirtyCheeseBurger · 20/06/2024 09:56

I think she's great.

ElleLeopine · 20/06/2024 10:01

I can't stand her radio voice, it's sounds fake and put on. When I have seen her on TV she seems so much better!
Also, when she was doing her show immediately after the sad announcement of the death of Steve Wright, she sounded normal then, which again makes me think that the rest of the time she feels the need to overact.

She can sound a bit awkward and uncool with her dad jokes sometimes which inadvertently makes me laugh, but yes, can see it could be irritating. I think she's trying to be ironic?

Hate that bloody jingle though, reminds me of 80's Muppet show or something

One of the songs she does play as a jingle is from the muppets the other is the start of La La Land

CrushingOnRubies · 20/06/2024 10:06

She's better than Zoe ball!

Mapletreelane · 20/06/2024 10:20

I love her. She's same age as me and so much of her humour and attitude resonates with me. I think she is very funny and warm . Friend spent an evening at same table as her at a charity do and said she was fabulous 👌 👏 .

Yet I couldn't stand her when she got breakfast show at R1.

But I'd love to have a night out with her!

Euromonkey · 20/06/2024 10:23

I like Sara but not a fan of Zoe. I like a wry northerner like Sean Keaveny.

Branleuse · 20/06/2024 10:25

Ive loved Sara Cox ever since the girlie show. I think shes really funny

CHEESEY13 · 20/06/2024 10:28

Yes, I'm inclined to think her voice is put on. If that's meant to be a Lancashire accent then I'm a Martian. Which I am not.

It's very heavily 'laid on with a trowel'.

She makes me think of those "authentic dialogue" performance poets who pop up in pubs occasionally - and utterly mangle the indigenous accent of the locals.

And the daft sound effects she tries to inject into the conversation. Please make it stop!

EachandEveryone · 20/06/2024 10:29

My friend was at a 40th with her and said shes just one of the lassies. A right good laugh.

i do love her taste in music just takes me right back to Ibiza and that carefree era.

wejammin · 20/06/2024 10:36

I really like Sara Cox, I listen to her once a week on the drive home from my most stressful work day and by the time I get home I feel relaxed and happy. I like her way with words and how it feels like just having a chat with a mate. I'm from Bolton and I don't understand why PP thinks the accent is fake. Sounds spot on to me!

She's WAY less broad than she was in the 90's, she's toned it down so maybe why you feel it sounds put on

Minikievs · 20/06/2024 10:51

Weirdly, when I was younger, I used to absolutely hate her and would immediately turn her off within a millisecond.
Now, I really like her! She makes me laugh and I think she'd be fun to go for a beer with.
I'm about her age so it's nothing to do with me being older I don't think 🤷‍♀️

I cannot BEAR Paddy. His voice goes right through me. Don't mind Zoe or Vernon. I find Liza Tarbuck quite boring.

DevotedSisterBelovedCunt · 20/06/2024 11:00

I quite like her, but I really dislike that new "Our tune" type feature where it gets all bloody mawkish about people's nannas dying and the like. Totally the wrong mood for an early evening show like that.

TakeOnFlea · 20/06/2024 11:16

Yeah, I don't like that feature either but I do like Sara. I miss Claudia, she was brilliant and I have to switch off Scott.

My favourite show at the moment is Michelle Visage on a Friday, perfect start to the weekend.

Agree with this - much preferred first & last!

I like Sara and Zoe. Vernon not too bad. Can't abide Liza or Jaybe Macdonald when she's on. Not keen on Paddy either.

I love Sara's half wower .

I love Sara and Vernon. I agree about Jane Mcdonald and Paddy McGuinness. I had to switch the radio off the 500th time I heard the phrase ' picky tea'.

BogRollBOGOF · 20/06/2024 11:37

I followed Ken over. He was the last really enjoyable presenter on weekdays.

Sara is tolerable, but I'm not a fan of constant phone-in, talking to ordinary people about mundane life things.

Zoe made me feel like I was in a pub inconveniently close to the raucous table which is not what I need in the mornings while trying to get life going.

Scott Mills sounds like he's boring himself to death.

I reached the point where adverts were no less annoying than half the content on Radio 2. Ironically I'm in the age range that they're supposed to be targeting. I find 6 Music too mumbly and a bit earnest.

MissingMoominMamma · 20/06/2024 11:41

I find her easy to listen to- like a friend you’re comfortable with.

It’s a typical East Lancs accent.

LadyLucksalot · 20/06/2024 12:15

I think she's great. One of the few left on Radio 2 that's any good.

Over the past few years, and certainly since Ken left, it seems Radio 2 has been on a mission to flush away listeners. Jeremy Vine used to be great! Simon Mayo was the business! Now, what on earth's happened? Do they think we've mashed potatoes for brains?

Thank goodness for Sara Cox I say.

Are you having a laff, or should I say larf instead, for your approval?

OP- Your thread has brought all the barm cakes to the back yard.
What a silly, mean, pointless thread you’ve started when you don’t even listen unlike millions of others every day to the show.

midlifeattheoasis · 20/06/2024 13:29

I love Sara but have to switch off now when that new "matched, hatched and dispatched" comes on. It changes the mood of the programme and lets be honest, no one is remotely interested in the long winded explanation of why someone is choosing a song

fruitpastille · 20/06/2024 13:32

I like her but she should tone it down a little. I love her Between the Covers tv show where she seems more herself. I prefer her to Zoe and I also find Ritchie grating.

Vernon and Scott are an improvement on Ken and Steve but that's not saying much.

I cannot bear Liza Tarbuck and turn her off. Same if I hear Ooh Gary Davies.

Favourites have been Claudia, Dermot and Graham Norton ages ago. I really like Romesh. I used to like Simon Mayo but his show on greatest hits feels stale now.

To be honest I struggle to find the perfect radio channel. I switch between 2 and 4. I'm too indecisive for podcasts or there's a problem with my Bluetooth so I give up!

DramaLlamaBangBang · 20/06/2024 15:21

My kids are obsessed with 'totally Tea-voted' Its such a silly feature but we normally sit with our hands in our mouths in the car willing whoever to pick up the phone!

Bringbackspring · 20/06/2024 16:02

I absolutely love listening to Sara Cox!

She has made me laugh out loud on more than 1 occasion and I like that she is not stuck up and not a music snob. I'm rarely in the car when it's her show but if I am I will always switch over to R2. I find most of R2 so boring and poncy but I could listen to Sara all day. She doesn't act like she thinks she's some super important star who'd throw her own Mum under a bus for a shot at I'm a Celebrity like most 'celebs' these days.
