They couldn't agree the verdict. I'm really shocked.

and perverting the course of justice by concealing her body .... surely you can't argue that they didn't do that!

ByCupidStunt · 19/06/2024 13:37

Money sure buys good legal representation

Baby was warm enough as it was inside microclimate of Mum’s coat, baby died from SIDS before it got really cold.

So was the defence that the baby died of SIDS and that the environment the parents had placed her in was not a contributing factor?

CormorantStrikesBack · 19/06/2024 13:39

I suppose it’s exceedingly hard to prove what caused the death of the baby, cold or SIDS. But I certainly think they should be charged with neglect and concealment of a death.

I believe so. I read something about them saying they should be allowed to live an alternative lifestyle and such a lifestyle doesn’t mean it’s unsafe. Something about babies live in yurts in Mongolia with no heating and are fine 🤷‍♀️🙈

Yes, and the confidence of a wealthy background ☹️

FrenchandSaunders · 19/06/2024 14:00

So the jury have been doing this 5 days a week since January?!

coxesorangepippin · 19/06/2024 14:04

Begs the question, if she wasn't upper class would the jury have been so divided?

AGlinnerOfHope · 19/06/2024 14:05

Appalling. Hard to imagine that they were not reckless in their actions.

Babies in Mongolian yurts have thousands of years of culture and practice informing their care, as well as extended support. Totally incomparable with two city dwellers with a tent trying to stay off radar.

AGlinnerOfHope · 19/06/2024 14:06

My only question was which of them is dominant and driving their behaviour. The behaviour itself was unforgivable.

I think it's him. Didn't he do 15 years for murder in the USA?

No. The trial went on far longer than originally estimated so the jurors had pre-existing arrangements that the deliberations had to break for. A couple dropped out. I think it was only one more that could drop out before this happened. It's due to all the delays as much as anything else most probably.

ByCupidStunt · 19/06/2024 14:11

Allow me to correct myself. It was 20 years. For armed kidnapping, 4 lots of armed sexual battery, and burglary with a deadly weapon.

Her parents must have been heartbroken when she shacked up with him.

HappierTimesAhead · 19/06/2024 14:18

The whole thing is so shocking because she had every possible privilege in the world and ended up living in a tent with her newborn baby. He is clearly a deeply dangerous individual

ZoomDoomZoom · 19/06/2024 14:26

I wouldn't be against forced sterilisation in this case to prevent them from doing the same again. They've already had children taken off them and adopted out and a baby died in their 'care'. It's a good bet that they will repeat their neglectful behaviour again.

Pretty sure it was reported that her trust fund trustees refused to approve extra money for legal representation.

I find that very hard to believe. It's probably the ONE thing they did agree to pay for.

fashionqueen0123 · 19/06/2024 14:32

So bizarre. Why haven’t they at least been found guilty of the concealment etc while they presumably do a retrial. I don’t under stand how they can say it was not neglect

AGlinnerOfHope · 19/06/2024 14:33

I also have begun to believe there are situations where compulsory contraception is appropriate.
I fostered babies 4&5 fathered on vulnerable women by a nasty piece of work. Baby 6 followed before I lost track of the family- I think he moved on to a fourth vulnerable woman.

Sterilise the men

'An aristocrat who allegedly killed her newborn daughter is having her defence case paid for by the taxpayer.

Marten today appeared via video link at the Old Bailey, which heard she is now receiving legal aid to fund her defence. She had previously told the court that the trust fund which controls her finances had failed to pay her solicitors and they had withdrawn their services.'

Still not buying it.

Sterilise the men

why not both?

Quitelikeit · 19/06/2024 14:41

@ByCupidStunt you are living up to your username then

🤣🤣🤣

Facts are Facts unless you know something the media doesn’t?

AGlinnerOfHope · 19/06/2024 14:43

@DunkinBensDonuts in my cases, because the women may well go on to have a healthy relationships and be able to keep children, with support.
It was the man who was the issue.

Sterilise men who abuse women into pregnancy.
Sterilise women who abuse children.

I probably couldn’t defend that against serious opposition or every situation, but it would solve a hell of a lot of tragedy, frankly.
